The Malaysian government has announced Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (TEMCO) for the districts of Lahad Datu, Tawau, Kunak and Semporna in Sabah. This will be enforced from 12.01am midnight (29th September) until 12th October 2020.

The TEMCO will affect a population of 962,661 and they are prohibited from leaving the TEMCO area throughout the enforcement period. Similarly, outsiders also not allowed to enter TEMCO areas and all entry/exit points will be closed.

In addition, non-essential businesses are also ordered to be closed and a medical base will be set up at the TEMCO areas. The Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, Civic Defence Force, RELA and the local authorities will ensure compliance at the affected areas. All affected residents are urged to stay calm and to provide full cooperation to all officers from the Ministry of Health.

For any enquiries, the public may contact the following numbers:

Lahat Datu: 089-881255
Tawau: 089-752222
Kunak: 089-851222
Semporna: 089-782020

According to the Ministry of Health, there are a total of 1,195 new COVID-19 cases reported in the four districts between 1st to 27th September 2020. Lahad Datu has the most cases at 241, followed by 634 cases in Tawau, 65 in Kunak and 255 in Semporna. The four districts are the only red zones in East Malaysia.

To curb the spread of infections interstate, the Ministry of Health has announced new restrictions for arrivals from Sabah that came into effect yesterday, 27th of September. All individuals arriving from Sabah must undergo COVID-19 screening and placed under home quarantine. A second COVID-19 test will be conducted if any individual is showing symptoms during the 14-day period.
