COVID-19: New cases drop to 21 today, new Selamat cluster identified in Semporna

Malaysia has recorded 21 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 10,052. Today marks the lowest daily number of COVID-19 cases in 11 days. There are no new deaths today and the death toll remains at 128.

The Ministry of Health has reported 15 new recoveries and a total of 9,250 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is 92.02% while the mortality rate is at 1.27%.

There are currently 674 active COVID-19 cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. 13 patients are in ICU while 2 require respiratory support.

Out of the 21 new COVID-19 cases reported today, 5 are imported while 16 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consist of 2 individuals returning from New Zealand and 1 each returning from China, Pakistan and India. All 5 imported cases reported today are Malaysians.

In terms of local cases, there are 7 new cases in Kedah, followed by 5 in Sabah, 2 in Penang and 1 each in Selangor and Sarawak. The Sungai cluster in Kedah has recorded 6 new cases while Sabah’s Benteng cluster has 2 new cases.

The Benteng cluster now has a total of 474 positive cases and a total of 7,670 individuals have been screened so far. 2,838 individuals are still waiting for their results. Meanwhile, Sungai cluster currently has 65 positive cases and 22,317 individuals have been screened. 2,508 individuals from the cluster are still awaiting results.

The Ministry of Health has identified a new Selamat cluster in Semporna, Sabah which now has 2 positive cases. The index patient is a 32-year old woman that was found positive through hospital screening and the new case reported today is a close contact.
