COVID-19: New cases jump 15, new Tawar cluster identified in Kedah with 9 cases

Malaysia has recorded 15 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of cases to 9,129. There are no new deaths recorded and the death toll remains at 125.

The Ministry of Health has reported 4 new recoveries and a total of 8,821 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 96.63% while the morality rate is 1.37%.

COVID-19 Malaysia

There are currently 183 active cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. 2 patients are in ICU and none are on respiratory support.

Out of the 15 cases reported today, 4 are imported while 11 are transmitted locally. The imported cases include 3 Malaysians returning from Indonesia and 1 Malaysian returning from Yemen.

In terms of local cases, Ministry of Health has identified a new Tawar cluster in Kedah which recorded 9 new cases today. The other two cases are in Kuala Lumpur which include 1 Malaysian that was detected during pre-surgery screening and 1 foreigner that was detected during a pre-departure screening.

The Tawar cluster currently has 10 positive cases. The first case was reported on 12th August after a screening at a hospital in Sungai Petani on 11th August. The 9 new cases are relatives to the first positive case and 86 close contacts have been tested. 21 have returned negative while 56 are still waiting for results.

Active case detection is still on going and the source of infection is still under investigation. There are no new cases today from other clusters.
