For the upcoming Huawei P40 series, it appears there are two different P40 Pro models which don’t include the Porsche Design edition. Last week we saw high-resolution renders of the Huawei P40 Pro that was shared by serial leakster @evleaks and now he has shared another image which appears to be a “standard” Pro model.
Turns out the new top-of-the-line flagship is going to be called as the P40 Pro Premium Edition. As seen earlier, the device will carry five cameras at the rear which include a telephoto periscope camera that could possibly do 10X optical zoom.
For the non-Premium Edition model, the device will settle for a more modest quad-camera setup that also offers a telephoto camera with a periscope mechanism. If we put both devices renders side by side, it appears that the P40 Pro Premium Edition is smaller than the P40 Pro. It was previously speculated that the P40 Pro will have a display of around 6.5 to 6.7 inches.
If we take a closer look at the camera bump, you’ll find a different camera setup based on the label that’s printed next to the LEICA branding. For the quad-camera P40 Pro, it indicates an aperture range of f/1.8 to f/3.4 while the focal length range is between 18mm to 125mm. This is quite close to the P30 Pro which has an f/1.6-f/3.4 aperture range and focal length of 16mm to 125mm.

The P40 Pro Premium Edition variant is stepping things up with an aperture of f/1.8 to f/4.0 along with a focal length range between 18mm to 240mm. Based on what we can see, the P40 Pro will likely retain the same 5x optical zoom with 50x digital zoom capability as the current P30 Pro, while the higher-end P40 Pro Premium edition could do 10X optical zoom with digital zoom up to 100X.
In terms of build, the P40 Pro Premium Edition is said to be using ceramic for its back and this could be similar to the recent flagship devices from Samsung. The P40 Pro Premium Edition appears to be competing directly with Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 Ultra which is expected to feature a 108MP main camera and a 48MP telephoto shooter that can push up to 100x digital zoom.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra will be the biggest Galaxy S flagship yet with a 6.9″ Quad HD+ display and a huge 5,000mAh battery. At the moment, Huawei has not revealed any launch dates for the P40 series but it could be happening sometime next month after Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on 11th February.
