It appears that the Samsung Galaxy S20 series will be announced much earlier than we thought. The first Samsung Unpacked event for 2020 will be taking place on 11th February based on a leaked promo video. This will be the successor to the current Galaxy S10 and the Korean smartphone maker is jumping straight to S20 to mark the new decade.
Max Weinbach of XDA Developers had tweeted the Unpacked video which shows two mysterious “boxes” underneath the sheets. One of it looks rectangular while the other looks squarish.
The rectangular element resembles the shape of the new camera bump which is similar to the new Galaxy A series and also the new Galaxy S10 Lite. From what we’ve seen earlier, the new Galaxy S20 series will also feature a similar camera bump design which has become a common theme for 2020 smartphones.
Based on recent speculations, the base Galaxy S20 will feature a 6.2″ display while the S20+ will get a larger 6.7″ screen. For the first time, Samsung is expected to unveil an even larger device that has a 6.9″ display.
For the second device, this could be the new clam-shell Galaxy Fold. The almost perfect square looks like the Galaxy Fold 2 when folded as shown below. Instead of using plastic on the flexible display, the new Galaxy Fold is expected to utilise a new bendable glass which eliminates the crease in the middle of the screen.
This is just our guess for now but Samsung might pull another surprise during the event day itself. Apart from the Galaxy S20 series, Samsung is also expected to reveal its new Galaxy Buds.
Samsung has not officially announced the Unpacked event but it is rumoured to be taking place in San Francisco. Since Malaysia is a key market, we expect pre-orders to begin locally by the end of February 2020.
