Barely 9 months since the first Reno was introduced, Oppo has just unveiled its latest Reno 3 series. With 5G as their key focus in 2020, the new Oppo Reno 3 and Reno 3 Pro are the company’s first smartphones to support dual-mode 5G (NSA + SA).

Oppo Reno 3 Pro

Among the two, the Reno 3 Pro is their highest offering and it features a 6.5″ Full HD+ OLED display that’s curved around the edges. The display has a 90Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 1,100 nits and it supports HDR10+.

Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset that comes with an integrated 5G modem supporting both NSA + SA architecture. If you need even faster downloads, the device supports 5G + WiFi dual-channel acceleration mode to deliver higher speeds than a standalone mobile connection. The device can be configured with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

For imaging, the rear gets a quad-camera setup which is aligned on the top left corner. It has a 48MP f/1.7 main camera (Sony IMX586), 8MP /f2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera, a 13MP f/2.4 telephoto shooter with 5x hybrid zoom and a 2MP monochrome camera.

Improving from the Reno 2 is its improved Ultra Steady Video 2.0 that offers “gimbal-like” stabilisation. Both main and telephoto cameras come with optical image stabilisation. For a more immersive video viewing experience, the Reno 3 Pro comes with stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos enhancement.

Unlike the previous Reno series, Oppo has killed its iconic shark-fin style pop-up camera for its latest lineup. Instead, it gets a punch-hole camera on the top left corner that houses a 32MP selfie shooter. Even the rear looks nothing like the original Reno series which had a thick stripe in the middle that has a little raised element to protect the camera lenses.

The Oppo Reno 3 Pro comes in a total of 5 colours which include Classic Blue which is named as the Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2020. The Classic Blue special edition comes in a special retail box that’s filled accessories with matching colours for the cable and headphones.

The Oppo Reno 3 Pro comes with a 4,025mAh battery that supports VOOC 4.0 fast charging. A 20-minute charge on the cable can provide up to 50% of battery life. Out of the box, it runs on Android 10 with Oppo’s latest ColorOS 7 skin on top. Below is the official pricing in China:

Oppo Reno 3 Pro
8GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 3,999 (about RM2,361)
12GB RAM + 256GB storage – CNY 4,499 (about RM2,656)

Oppo has also announced a more affordable Reno 3. Instead of a dual-curved display, it comes with a slightly smaller 6.4″ Full HD+ OLED panel. The display is flat and it doesn’t come with a 90Hz refresh rate. Instead of a Qualcomm processor, the Reno 3 is running on a MediaTek Dimensity 1000L SoC which also supports dual-mode 5G.

In the imaging camera, the non-Pro Reno 3 also retains a quad-camera array but it features a higher resolution 64MP main camera. There’s also an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and two additional cameras for portrait effects. Meanwhile, the front gets a 32MP selfie camera on the display’s notch.

Powering the device is also a 4,025mAh battery that supports 30W VOOC 4.0 charging. Like the Reno 3 Pro, you can charge the device up to 50% in just 20 minutes on the cable. Below is the retail pricing in China:

Oppo Reno 3
8GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 3,399 (about RM2,006)
12GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 3,699 (about RM2,184)
