This could be the Redmi Note 8 Pro

Just after photos of what will likely be Xiaomi‘s new Redmi 8 smartphones broke the surface, we could very well have another look at what will most probably be the new Redmi Note 8 Pro too.

A leakster on Twitter just shared two photos of the phone being displayed on a screen in what looks like an advertisement shoot for the smartphone. It bears a striking resemblance to the Redmi 8 that we saw leak earlier so it’s not unreasonable to assume that this is the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

What we can see from the photo is that the smartphone looks a lot like the Redmi K20/K20 Pro series of phones with the way the cameras are aligned and the way the Redmi logo is oriented. Of course, in Malaysia–and indeed globally–the K20 launched as the Mi 9T, so we didn’t get the official variant with the Redmi logo.

But, speaking of cameras, it looks like the smartphone will have three (possibly four, the last one being a depth sensor just below the flash) cameras at the centre of the back of the smartphone. Just below the three cameras, but on the same module, you’ll find what looks like a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner–which means that this phone won’t have an in-display fingerprint scanner. This could also hint at the fact that the handset’s screen is an LCD panel as Xiaomi could just use an in-display scanner if they opted for AMOLED instead, much like they did with the Mi A3.

Besides that, the Redmi Note 8 Pro looks like it could share the same kind of two-toned back design as the Redmi K20 smartphones too, but this time in what looks like a green smartphone? Who knows, that could just be some funky lighting.

In any case, we don’t know much else about the Redmi Note 8 Pro at this point. However, we could see a couple of things including a 64MP main camera and a really, really big battery since the Redmi 8 already packs a 5,000 mAh cell. It will be interesting to see what Xiaomi pulls out of the bag with this new phone to remain competitive in what is becoming and increasingly competitive market. With smartphone makers like Realme on the cusp of launching updates to their wildly bang-for-buck smartphones, Xiaomi’s got their work cut out for them.

Either way, it’s a win-win for budget phone hunters.
