The latest Apple Watch series 4 has the ability to allow users to get an electrocardiogram (ECG) directly from their wrist. Initially available only in the US, the ECG feature is now enabled in Hong Kong and in 19 European countries. Unfortunately, Malaysia is not included at the moment.

According to Apple, the ECG app and irregular rhythm notification have gotten the CE mark and it is cleared in the European Economic Area. With the latest watchOS 5.2 update, the ECG app can automatically capture heart rhythm on demand when the wearer is experiencing rapid or skipped heart beat. This captured info can provide important data to physicians.

Irregular Rhythm Notification

Meanwhile, the irregular rhythm notification will occasionally check your heart rhythm in the background and it will alert you if an irregular heart rhythm appears to be atrial fibrillation (AFib) is identified. This feature is available on all Apple Watch models from Series 1 and it uses the optical sensor. According to Apple, if an irregular rhythm is detected on five rhythm checks over a minimum of 65 minutes, it will alert the user with a notification.

The latest watchOS 5.2 update is available today and you’re also required to update your iPhone to iOS 12.2.
