Apple will repair iPhones that are currently using 3rd party batteries

According to internal Apple documents obtained by MacRumors and initial reports from French news outlet iGeneration, iPhones that have aftermarket batteries installed are now eligible for repairs at Genius Bars and Apple Authorised Service Providers (AASP) at normal prices.

Previously, Apple will not repair iPhones that have any aftermarket components installed. This means that if you’ve replaced any original parts in your iPhone with third-party components, you’ll risk voiding your warranty and Apple will not repair your device, even if the repairs are irrelevant to the non-original parts.

Based on the reports, all repairs that are unrelated to the battery can be carried out as usual, despite having a third-party battery installed. If the problem lies in the battery itself, technicians in the Genius Bar and AASPs are permitted to replace the third-party battery with an original Apple battery for standard fees.

MacRumors also reports that the Genius Bar and AASPs can replace the entire iPhone for the cost of the battery replacement if the battery tabs are broken, missing or have excessive adhesive at the discretion of a Genius Bar or AASP technician.

Despite the change in Apple’s repair policy, they will still decline repair services for iPhones that have other third-party components installed such as logic boards, microphones, headphone jacks, lightning connectors, sensors and certain other parts.

Before this, Apple had changed their repair policy back in 2017 when they declared that iPhones with third-party screen repairs are eligible for warranty coverage if the repairs do not involve the display.
