SOCAR Malaysia revises membership fee and free mileage limit

SOCAR Malaysia

Car-sharing provider, SOCAR, has announced a few revisions for 2019. For those who have not booked a SOCAR yet, the one-time membership fee will be increased significantly starting tomorrow.

At the moment, SOCAR Malaysia is offering a discounted membership fee of only RM10 and this will be charged upon your first booking. Effective 1st January 2019, new customers will have to pay the normal membership fee of RM50. For those who want to enjoy the lower membership fee, you’ll need to sign up and book your first ride by today.

On top of that, SOCAR has also revised its free hourly mileage limit from 30KM to 20KM. Petrol is still free using the included petrol card but this means those travelling long distance in a shorter duration will more likely have to pay for excess mileage. At the moment, SOCAR charges RM0.25 per KM for additional mileage. For easy reference, 100KM of extra mileage costs RM25.

For daily bookings on SOCAR, you’ll still be charged maximum of 12 hours per day. With this new revision, that means you’ll be given a free mileage allowance of 240KM per day instead of the usual 360KM per day. For those making one-way trips to the airport, a two-hour booking will only give you 40KM of free mileage instead of the current 60KM. The travel distance to KLIA from central KL or PJ, is about 55-65KM, so you’ll definitely have to pay more for excess mileage for such trips.

At the moment, SOCAR has over 900 vehicles that are located in more than 475 SOCAR zones in the Klang Valley and Johor. They currently have 17 different vehicle options on their fleet which include the Axia, Picanto, Myvi, City, Vios, HR-V, BR-V, Passat, BMW 330e and Mini Cooper.

If you want to try SOCAR, you can get started by downloading the app. You can also learn more about the booking experience through this walk-through.
