First, it was chicken rice, then it was satay, after that, nasi lemak and now it’s cendol. In its latest list of the ‘50 of the world’s best desserts’, CNN claims that cendol is from, of all places, Singapore.

CNN’s latest list of ‘50 of the world’s best desserts’ includes cendol, but their description of the dish being from Singapore has left Malaysian foodies feeling more bitter than sweet, says the Malay Mail.

On its website, CNN describes cendol as a ‘blissfully cool dessert’ and acknowledges that different versions of it can be found throughout South-east Asia, but says that Singapore’s take on the dish with sweet red beans makes it ‘especially tempting’.

Obviously, we Malaysians are pissed!

Singapore cendol is “especially tempting”???

I know Americans can’t tell the difference between truffles and trash but @CNN, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me. pic.twitter.com/atNslZ47Bo

Omfg @CNN, cendol is either Malaysian or Indonesian but it definitely isn’t Singaporean.

Jen Rose Smith is forbidden from eating cendol unless she goes onto a rendang and rice diet for a year and only listens to M.Nasir and Anggun during that time.

Here’s the thing CNN…If cendol is from Singapore then why is the sugar used in Cendol called gula Melaka? Explain that CNN.
