Toshiba Tablet teaser site takes a stab at iPad’s lack of Flash

Toshiba is set to launch its first tablet sometime within these three months. Ahead of the launch, the company has put up a teaser website to showcase some of the features of the device. But that’s not all the teaser site was created for, if you try to access thetoshibatablet.com from the iPad or iPhone, you’ll be greeted with this notice.

Yes, Toshiba is taking a stab at the iPad’s inability to render Flash websites. It’s a bit of gamble and a rather moot point if you ask us. The lack of Flash on iOS devices have been brought up so many times we’re not sure if anyone out there still cares. And by not having a version of the teaser site that’s viewable on the iPhone or iPad, Toshiba is shunning away some potential customers because let’s face, although peddling the Toshiba Tablet to an iPad owner might be pointless there are a number of iPhone owners out there who are looking for an iPad alternative. That’s a potential market for Toshiba. Anyway, what do we know.

While we’re at it. Here’s what the Toshiba Tablet will bring into the tablet wars:

  • Built for tablet Android 3.0 Honeycomb
  • 10.1 capacitive multi-touch display with 1280×800 pixel resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio
  • NVidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor
  • 720p video playback
  • Stereo speakers
  • 5MP rearward-facing camera (main) and 2.0MP forward-facing camera (secondary) — no word on 720p video recording
  • User-replaceable battery
  • USB, mini-USB, HDMI and SD card slot
  • 5 colour option via a special interchangeable rubber coated back plate — Toshiba calls this coating EasyGrip

No word on on board storage and RAM as well but the specs are still impressive and definitely adequate to keep up with the Motorola Xoom and BlackBerry PlayBook. This also means whatever Apple is going to come up with in the iPad 2, it has to be at least a dual-core device.
