Planning to book dinner at Rembayung soon? With Grab Dine Out, you can now book a table at the highly popular restaurant.

Previously, Rembayung used Umai to manage its table reservations. However, securing a table was often a nightmare, as the booking system was frequently overwhelmed by heavy traffic, resulting in crashes and long delays in the virtual waiting room. Diners were also left waiting without real-time notifications when reservation slots were fully booked.

Khairul Aming teams up with Grab to counter scalpers

Previously, Khairul Aming says a lot of table or dining reservations were taken up by scalpers. The Kelantanese admitted this is a major issue because a lot of genuine customers missed out on their bookings.

Khairul Aming himself added that he was “stuck” when dealing with this issue, even declining the suggestion to include IC as a way to make bookings due to safety and privacy concerns.

Now, the local entrepreneur announced a partnership with Grab to address this issue. Khairul Aming said that booking a table Rembayung can now be done via Grab’s Dine Out feature.

What’s the difference between Umai and Grab?

For context, Umai is a cloud-based restaurant reservation and guest management (CRM) software that was used by Rembayung to handle bookings or reservations.

Through Umai’s system, bookings opened daily at 9:00 PM (except Fridays) and it offered two tiered windows for reservations. The first being short-term reservations (2 days in advance) and longer-term bookings (up to 2 weeks in advance).

Additionally, the number of customers are limited to a minimum of two people per session or a maximum of eight people per session. Through Umai, your dining sessions are limited to around 1 hour 45 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes.

Customers will also need to pay deposit of RM10 per person through the portal. The reservations are also limited to one booking per day, if the system found out a guest had double booked, the booking will be cancelled and the RM10 will not be refunded. This was done to ensure fairness for other customers.

Those who made a booking would also need to show their proof of purchase on email at the entrance.

On the other hand, Grab provides two options – Dine in and Take Away, depending on the guest’s preferences. If you want to dine in, you can make a booking via Grab Dine Out. Reservations open from 11 AM to 9PM. If customers want a take away meal, the booking options starts from 12:45 PM to 6:45 PM.

The number of diners per booking starts from a minimum of 3 people per session and caps at a maximum of 8 people. Do keep in mind that children and babies are also considered as 1 person. For example, you can book a table for 8 guests, that being 4 adults and 4 children.

Moreover, diners are only allowed one reservation within 7 days before or after an active booking. Double booking would result in cancellation without refund. Like Umai, diners are also given 1 hour and 45 minutes for each dining session.

Besides that, diners can also make a special request such as strollers or wheelchairs, subject to availability and restaurant’s discretion. Should they be late to Rembayung, the restaurant will only hold the table for 15 minutes. Late comers would result in automatic cancellation with no refunds.

Rembayung also strictly forbid table swapping or transfer booking ownership to prevent scalpers from getting table reservations. Diners will need to present their proof of purchase directly to the PoC at the entrance. Remember, Rembayung does not accept screenshots as proof.

Currently, Rembayung only accepts cashless transactions like Debit, Credit card and QR only.

How you can use Grab Dine Out to book a table at Rembayung

Making dinner reservations at Rembayung through Grab Dine Out is quite straightforward. First, tap on the “Dine Out” feature, type  “Rembayung” on the search bar, then tap “Book A Table”.

Customers can then choose their preferred number of pax, date and seating preference. After they are done, they will be led to the payment page and complete their payments there.

For diners based from overseas such as Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei. They can still make a booking by switching their locations to Malaysia.
