Taking a red-eye flight or arriving at KLIA Terminal 1 after midnight? Take note that the KLIA Aerotrain will be unavailable from 12:00am to 5:00am between 8 and 17 October 2026 as the airport carries out the first phase of a scheduled software update.
During the five-hour window, passengers travelling between the KLIA Main Terminal Building and Satellite Building (C Gates) will have to use shuttle buses instead. The Aerotrain will continue to operate as usual outside the affected hours.
The software update comes after the Aerotrain completed 20,000 continuous operational hours and is part of efforts to strengthen its operational robustness and support its long-term performance.
KLIA Aerotrain software update has two phases

The Aerotrain software update will be carried out in two phases. The first phase, from 8 to 17 October 2026, involves installing and testing the software update under actual operating conditions. The results will then undergo an independent safety assessment.
Depending on the outcome of the assessment, a permanent software update will be rolled out from 28 November to 1 December 2026.
Aerotrain services will also be unavailable from 12:00am to 5:00am during the second rollout phase, with shuttle buses provided for passengers travelling between the Main Terminal Building and Satellite Building.
KLIA Chief Operating Officer Adam Nicholas Wilson said the airport’s priority is to ensure that the Aerotrain continues to provide a reliable and smooth service for passengers.
KLIA said the Aerotrain has maintained 99.9% availability since the completion of its Comprehensive Action Plan in June.
KLIA Aerotrain resumed 24-hour operations in June 2026

The latest temporary suspension comes just over four months after the KLIA Aerotrain recently returned to full 24-hour operations.
The replacement Aerotrain system resumed passenger service on 1 July 2025, after being suspended for more than two years. However, it subsequently encountered several operational and technical issues.
In November 2025, Malaysia Airports temporarily halted Aerotrain services from 12:00am to 5:00am daily to carry out inspection and rectification works, with shuttle buses deployed during the downtime.
This was later expanded into a broader Comprehensive Action Plan involving inspection and rectification works, system testing and validation, and trial operations.
Following the completion of the action plan and verification by independent railway assessors, the Aerotrain resumed 24-hour operations from 1 June 2026.
