The Apple Watch Series 12 was officially revealed to the world alongside the much-anticipated iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro series during Apple’s launch event this morning. While maintaining the familiar design profile of its predecessor, the Series 12 focuses heavily on deep health tracking upgrades, in addition to packing a more powerful processor and bringing back the Ceramic casing option.
In Malaysia, Apple Watch Series 12 pre-orders kick off tomorrow, 11 September, with official in-store availability starting Friday, 18 September 2026. You can purchase it through Apple Malaysia’s online store as well as various official Apple retailers including Shopee and Lazada.

Apple Watch Series 12: What’s new?
At the core of the Apple Watch Series 12 is the new S11 silicon—derived from the A20 Pro processor that powers the new iPhone 18 Pro series—alongside an entirely redesigned Health Sensing System. The Aluminium models also receive a display upgrade with Ceramic Shield 2, offering 60% better durability than the Ion-X glass on Series 11.
Equipped with larger, more power-efficient green LEDs, the optical sensor now continuously samples heart rate every 5 seconds throughout the day. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) tracking also sees a massive boost, taking readings up to 24 times more frequently.
Apple splits this data into Recovery HRV for short-term stress monitoring and Overall HRV for long-term cardiovascular health insights. These enhanced vitals feed directly into Apple’s brand-new native Readiness feature.
Similar to recovery metrics found on other fitness wearables, Readiness calculates a score from 0 to 10 by evaluating training load, sleep scores, and daily vitals. The score updates dynamically throughout the day and offers recommendations on whether users should train heavily or focus on recovery.
The S11 chip also introduces updated pedometer algorithms designed to improve step count and distance precision during indoor walks and runs, accompanied by an official Steps watch face complication. Battery life during outdoor workouts has been extended to 10 hours, while standard daily battery life remains rated at up to 24 hours. Fast charging has also been tweaked, providing up to 12 hours of battery life from a 15-minute charge.
On the software side, the S11 chip utilises dedicated hardware isolation via Apple’s Secure Enclave to run on-device Sound Recognition without storing audio or relying on an iPhone. The feature alerts users to ambient sounds such as doorbells, alarms, or crying babies. Shazam music recognition has also been added directly to the Smart Stack interface.
Shipping with watchOS 27, the smartwatch gains a single-handed tap gesture to select Smart Stack widgets using an index finger and thumb pinch, alongside a dynamic app grid for frequently used apps and expanded Cycle Tracking features for perimenopause and menopause. This update will be made available for existing supported Apple Watch models starting Monday, 14 September.
