The Redmi Note 17 series has officially launched in Malaysia, consisting of four models – the Redmi Note 17, Redmi Note 17 5G, Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G and the range-topping Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G. This comes barely eight months after the launch of the Redmi Note 15 series.
This year, Xiaomi is putting a greater emphasis on battery capacity and durability, with the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G packing a massive 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery. Meanwhile, even the entry-level Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 5G get a sizeable 7,700mAh battery.
Due to the current global RAM shortage, there’s a noticeable price increase and the range topping model maxes out with 8GB of RAM, which is down from 12GB of RAM for the Redmi Note 15 Pro+.
The Redmi Note 17 series starts from RM749 during the launch promotion, while the top-spec Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G with 512GB storage is offered at RM2,099.

The open sale for the Redmi Note 17 series runs from 5th to 30th September 2026 through Xiaomi Stores, Mi.com and Xiaomi’s official stores on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop.
During the promotion period, buyers of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G and Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G will receive a free Redmi Headphones Neo in Obsidian Black. Xiaomi is also providing five years of battery warranty, three years of screen protection, two years of liquid damage coverage, two years of back cover warranty and two years of quality warranty.
For the Redmi Note 17 5G, buyers will receive a free Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Active in Black, along with four years of battery warranty, two years of screen protection, two years of back cover warranty and two years of quality warranty.
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 17 gets the same four-year battery warranty and two-year screen, back cover and quality warranty coverage, but without the free Smart Band.
All four models also come with two months of YouTube Premium and six months of Google One with 200GB of cloud storage.
Xiaomi has also partnered with Atome to offer a 0% instalment plan, along with an additional RM100 voucher which can be stacked on top of the existing discounts.
Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G Specs and Features
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is the range-topping model of the series. It features a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a resolution of 2772×1280 pixels, up to 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness. The 12-bit panel supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, while the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Under the hood, it runs on Qualcomm’s 4nm Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM along with either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.
For photography, there’s a dual-camera setup at the rear consisting of a 50MP f/1.5 main camera with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. The main camera supports up to 4K 30fps video recording. Up front, you get a 32MP selfie camera which can also record 4K video at 30fps.
One of the biggest highlights is its 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which Xiaomi says is its largest smartphone battery to date. It supports 100W HyperCharge as well as up to 27W wired reverse charging.
Xiaomi says the battery is rated to retain at least 80% of its capacity after 1,600 charge cycles and it has received TÜV SÜD 5-star Battery Performance Certification.
In terms of durability, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance. It has also been SGS-certified to withstand drops of up to three metres onto a smooth granite surface under its specified test conditions.
Other features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, dual speakers with Dolby Atmos and an IR blaster. It runs on Xiaomi HyperOS 3, and Xiaomi promises six years of security updates for the device.
Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G Specs and Features
The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G shares quite a lot with the Pro Max, including its 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a resolution of 2772×1280 pixels and up to 120Hz refresh rate. It also offers up to 3,500 nits peak brightness, a 12-bit colour depth and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.
Instead of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, the Pro model runs on the 4nm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and choice of 256GB and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
For cameras, you still get a 50MP main camera with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide camera, although the main camera has an f/1.8 aperture. The front gets a 16MP selfie camera.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G packs an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery with 67W HyperCharge and up to 22.5W wired reverse charging.
Like the Pro Max, Xiaomi says the battery can retain at least 80% capacity after 1,600 charge cycles and the phone has TÜV SÜD 5-star Battery Performance Certification.
The durability credentials are also similar to the Pro Max, with IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings, along with TÜV SÜD-certified water resistance at up to two metres for 72 hours under specified laboratory conditions. It also uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has been SGS-certified for drops of up to three metres onto a granite surface under specified test conditions.

Redmi Note 17 5G Specs and Features
Moving down to the Redmi Note 17 5G, you get a larger 6.99-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display pushing 2396×1080 pixels resolution. It supports up to 120Hz refresh rate and has a claimed peak brightness of 1,800 nits.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4. For Malaysia, it is available with either 6GB RAM and 128GB storage or 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It uses LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, and you can expand the storage by up to 2TB via microSD.
In the camera department, the Redmi Note 17 5G gets a 50MP f/1.8 main camera at the rear and a 16MP selfie camera at the front. Both cameras support up to 1080p video recording at 30fps.
Powering the device is a 7,700mAh battery that supports 45W turbo charging as well as 22.5W wired reverse charging.

The most affordable device of the series is the Redmi Note 17, which is offered as an online-exclusive model in Malaysia.
This 4G smartphone shares most of its hardware with the Redmi Note 17 5G. You still get a 6.99-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2396×1080 pixels, up to 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,800 nits peak brightness.
The main difference is connectivity and the processor. The Redmi Note 17 is a 4G device powered by Qualcomm’s 6nm Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2, with a CPU clock speed of up to 2.9GHz.
Malaysia gets a single configuration with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage which can be expanded via microSD.
The camera setup consists of a 50MP f/1.8 main camera and a 16MP selfie camera, with video recording topping out at 1080p 30fps.
