If you’re a fan of handheld gaming PCs, Asus’ gaming sub-brand, Republic of Gamers (ROG), has some good news for you.
They have officially teased that both the ROG Xbox Ally X20 handheld and the ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses will be making their way to Malaysia soon.
Built to celebrate 20 years of ROG, this special edition handheld brings a nostalgic translucent black chassis with gold internal accents, along with major hardware upgrades under the hood.
What’s Packed Inside?
Instead of just an incremental refresh, ROG is pushing specs significantly further this time. The handheld features AMD’s new Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor paired with a generous 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM and a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD.
The front display gets a huge upgrade as well, boasting a 7.4-inch Nebula HDR OLED panel with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, 1080p resolution, VRR support from 30Hz to 120Hz, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification, and a peak brightness of 1,400 nits.
For endurance and connectivity, it packs an 80Wh battery into a 756g frame, alongside Xbox-inspired ergonomics, magnetic TMR joysticks designed to prevent stick drift, impulse triggers, dual USB-C ports (including USB4 Thunderbolt 4 compatibility), a MicroSD Express reader, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Screen on the Face: ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 AR Glasses
For gamers wanting a massive screen experience without being tied to a desk, ROG is also bringing in the ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses.
These glasses project a virtual 171-inch display at a 4-meter distance with a 57° field of view. Weighing just 91g, they feature dual 0.55-inch Sony Micro-OLED panels delivering Full HD 1080p resolution per eye, an ultra-fast 0.01ms response time, up to 700 nits peak brightness, and 106% sRGB color gamut coverage.
For smooth gameplay, they support a 120Hz refresh rate that boosts up to 240Hz in Frame Rate Boost mode. They also come equipped with native 3DoF spatial tracking (featuring Anchor Mode to keep the screen fixed in space), 3-level Electrochromic Dimming with auto-transparency, real-time Instant 3D conversion, custom audio tuned by Bose, and a single USB-C cable setup designed for plug-and-play use with the Ally X20.
Standalone vs. The Ultimate Bundle
If you’re planning to pick one up, Asus has confirmed that Malaysian gamers will be able to buy the handheld in two different options. The standalone option gets you the ROG Xbox Ally X20 on its own, with the ROG Xreal R1 AR Glasses also available as a separate purchase.
Alternatively, if you want the complete collector’s setup, the bundle packages the Ally X20 together with the Xreal R1 AR Glasses, a custom dbrand Killswitch protective case with gold/black accents, a dbrand circuit-board skin, joystick covers, a 68W charger, and a custom Pelican Protector Case with red ROG latches.
For those who missed out on the original ROG Ally or waited for a substantial hardware bump especially a move to an OLED screen, magnetic TMR joysticks, 24GB RAM, and an 80Wh battery, this 20th Anniversary Edition is shaping up to be ROG’s most complete handheld package yet. Global units hit store shelves on October 15, with local pre-order details expected soon from ROG Malaysia.
While ROG Malaysia has yet to reveal exact local Ringgit pricing, global pricing from the official ASUS Pressroom lists the standalone handheld at USD 1,299 (~RM5,231), the standalone ROG Xreal R1 AR Glasses at USD 799 (~RM3,217), and the complete Collector’s Bundle at USD 2,499 (~RM10,064). The standalone handheld price would go for about RM5,500 to RM6,200 locally, while the full bundle would cost around RM10,500 to RM11,500.
