The guardian of Nissan brands in Malaysia, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM), has recently provided two units of Nissan Kicks e-Power for evaluation by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). They will be used to assess the subcompact hybrid SUV’s capability in terms of performance, practicality, and adaptability through real-world frontline operations.
The Proof of Concept (PoC) test will last for 2 months, according to ETCM. We are not sure if that duration is long enough for PDRM to get to know the hybrid really well, but it is still interesting to see this test happening as PDRM generally has yet to electrify its fleet.
While the Kicks e-Power is not a full EV, its series hybrid setup offers EV-like experience, in the form of instant torque and smooth acceleration. The Nissan Kicks e-Power is available in Malaysia with a starting price of RM113,800, although ETCM is currently offering a massive RM22,000 cash rebate for the car.
In addition to Kicks, ETCM also has Nissan Serena C28 e-Power as part of its e-Power offerings at this moment. During the KLIMS 2026, the company also revealed that the Nissan X-Trail e‑Power with the e-4orce all-wheel drive system will be launched locally in Q4 this year.
Nissan Kicks e-Power Malaysia Quick Specs
Launched in Malaysia during the KL International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024, the Nissan Kicks e-Power features a 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine that acts as a generator to charge its 2.06kWh lithium-ion battery. Unlike conventional hybrids, this SUV is 100% driven by its electric motor which produces 95kW (127hp) and 280Nm of torque.
The Kicks e-Power boasts a 0-100km/h acceleration of 9.5 seconds with a top speed of 180km/h. It also has e-Pedal mode which provides a one-pedal driving experience.
Nissan said that the Kicks e-Power is capable of providing massive fuel savings as the SUV can deliver a rather impressive fuel efficiency of 21.7km per litre, based on the NEDC cycle. The company also claimed that the Kicks e-Power can provide a driving range of up to 900km from its 41-litre fuel tank.
Furthermore, the e-Power system offers 20% lower tailpipe emissions and lower running costs compared to vehicles with a traditional internal combustion engine.
Both Nissan Kicks e-Power variants come with 7 airbags, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Intelligent Driver Alertness (IDA) and Cruise Control. Also included as standard are an 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6-speakers audio system and 3x USB ports.
The range-topping VLT variant adds extra driver assistance and safety features such as rear view mirror with built-in monitor, a 360-degree camera with Intelligent Moving Object Detection, Intelligent Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. There is also option for dual-tone exterior body colour for an extra RM4,000.
