Google Pixel 11 Pro teased with Pixel Glow RGB notification light ahead of August launch

Google is officially launching its next generation of Pixel smartphones on 12 August 2026. This would consist of the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

While new artificial intelligence features are a given, the company has dropped a major teaser for the Pixel 11 Pro, highlighting a new RGB notification light integrated into the rear camera bump.

Pixel Glow brings back the classic notification light

Based on the internal reference for the Android 17 Beta 4 build, this new hardware feature is speculated to be named Pixel Glow.

It functions as a rear-mounted LED notification system designed to alert users when the smartphone is placed face down.

From the looks it, the feature would allow users to customise specific colours and lighting effects depending on the type of alert, including incoming calls and messages.

The beta code also indicates that Pixel Glow will provide subtle lighting effects for calls from favourite contacts, offer visual feedback during hands-free operation, and activate when users interact with Gemini.

This feature requires dedicated hardware lighting and will be hidden or disabled when standard camera flash notifications are turned on.

A modern take on a nostalgic Android feature

Nothing Phone (3) with Glyph Matrix

Dedicated LED notification lights were a highly popular staple during the early days of Android before they were phased out in favour of bezel-less displays and Always-On Display technology.

The hardware feature is now making a comeback as smartphone makers look for new ways to offer passive alerts. Recent iterations from competitors include the secondary rear screens on the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the dot-matrix glyph interface on the Nothing Phone (3).

We will have to wait for the official launch to see how Google actually embeds this lighting array into its iconic camera bar design.
