Proton Saga Cross AMA02 to begin production in October?

The next model under the Proton Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA) family, the Proton AMA02, will be in production starting this October. This was revealed through a press statement by Feytech Holdings Berhad, which will be supplying seats for the new model.

According to Feytech, the production of AMA02 seats will be under the responsibility of its subsidiary, Gosford Leather Industries, under a 7-year contract that is worth RM96.8 million. The Johor-based company said that it had a longstanding relationship with Proton since 2012.

The press release also noted that the AMA02 is expected to be an A-segment compact crossover competing in the same space as the Perodua Ativa and the Honda WR-V. Rumoured to be called Saga Cross, the development of AMA02 was revealed to the public by the national automaker during a presentation at Proton Tech Showcase last December.

There have been rumours within the industry that the AMA02 might be made available with a choice of ICE and hybrid powertrains. This is in line with the information provided by last year’s presentation, whereby the AMA platform has been designed to support both types of powertrains.

Feytech to supply seats for Chery Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 7 Pro too

In today’s press release, Feytech also revealed that it will begin the production of seats for Chery Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 7 Pro this July at its facility in Subang Jaya. This will be done through another of its subsidiaries, FTRT Autoparts, which is a joint venture with Wuhu Ruitai Auto Parts Co., Ltd. from China.

Feytech said that FTRT was established to help China-based OEMs meet the localisation requirements for their local assembly (CKD) operations. The company is currently producing seats for several Chery Group models that are available in Malaysia, including Jaecoo J7 and Omoda 5, as well as unnamed Jetour models.
