Besides the new M5-powered MacBook Air for 2026, Apple has also updated its MacBook Pro lineup with its latest M5 Pro and M5 Max options.

This comes after Apple introduced the base MacBook Pro 14 with M5 chip back in October last year.

Similar to the new MacBook Air for 2026, Apple has doubled the base storage option. Both MacBook Pro 14 and 16 are now offered with a minimum of 1TB for the M5 Pro chip and 2TB for the M5 Max chip.

With the new processor and storage increase, the new MacBook Pro (M5 Pro) now starts higher from RM8,999.

By default, the MacBook Pro comes with a standard display and there’s the option to upgrade to a glare-reduced Nano-texture display for an extra RM630.

At the time of writing, you can already place orders for the MacBook Pro 14 with M5 chip, but the newer options with M5 Pro and M5 Max are still not available yet on Apple’s online store.

What’s new with MacBook Pro (M5 Pro and M5 Max) for 2026?

The biggest change for the MacBook Pro 2026 are Apple’s new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, which joins the existing M5-powered base model MacBook Pro 14.

Both M5 Pro and M5 Max chips feature a new Fusion Architecture design that’s said to be engineered from the ground up for AI. Essentially the new design combines two dies into a single system on a chip which provides increased performance.

In addition, the new M5 Pro and M5 Max now offer up to 18-core CPU consisting of 6 super cores and 12 performance cores. This approach replaces the previous performance + efficiency core combination found on the previous M4 Pro and M4 Max. The result is up to 30% faster CPU performance compared to its predecessor.

Meanwhile, the GPU architecture has been updated with Neural Accelerator in the each GPU core. According to Apple, this enables up to 4x faster LLM prompt processing compared to the M4 Pro and M4 Max and up to 8x AI image generation than the M1 Pro and M1 Max.

The M5 Pro powered MacBook Pro can be configured with up to 20-core GPU and up to 64GB of unified memory while the M5 Max powered version can be equipped with up to 40-core GPU and up to 128GB of unified memory.

The SSDs on the new MacBook Pros now offer 2x faster read/write performance compared to the previous generation with speeds of up to 14.5GB/s. As mentioned earlier, the base storage has been upgraded to 1TB for the standard MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro, while M5 Max models start from 2TB.

Similar to the latest MacBook Air and iPad Air for 2026, the new M5 Pro and Max powered MacBook Pro feature the latest Apple N1 wireless chip that enables faster WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 support.

The rest of the laptop remains mostly unchanged which include the same hardware design as the previous generation. The key hardware includes Liquid Retina XDR display, 12MP Centre Stage camera, high-fidelity 6-speaker sound system with force-cancelling woofers, studio-quality 3-mic array, 3x Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) ports, HDMI port, SDXC card slot and up to 24 hours of battery life for the MacBook Pro 16 M5 Pro.
