Slightly over a year after the brand made its debut in our market, Dongfeng has finally expanded its EV offering in Malaysia by introducing the Dongfeng Vigo compact SUV and the Dongfeng 007 fastback sedan. Together with the Dongfeng Box hatchback that was launched here in 2024, the brand’s lineup in Malaysia is much more versatile than before.
Well, let’s have a quick look at the two new offerings from Dongfeng for Malaysia through our video right here:
Based on the pricing above, as well as its form factor, the new Dongfeng Vigo will be competing in the same space as the BYD Atto 2, which is also officially priced at RM100,000. Physically, the Vigo is just a few mm shorter in length and height, but has a much wider and longer wheelbase than the Atto 2.
Also known as Nammi 06 in its home market of China, here’s the top-level specs for Dongfeng Vigo:
Other notable features that Dongfeng has equipped into the Vigo include a split tailgate that can support load of up 150kg. The electric compact SUV also comes standard with panoramic roof, leatherette seats, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.8-inch infotainment display, 3.3kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, L2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), and 6 airbags.
Dongfeng Vigo has a retail price of RM108,888 in Malaysia although the new model is currently being offered for RM100,000 after a launch rebate of RM8,888.
At a glance, you may think that the Dongfeng 007 is around the same size as its rivals, such as BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3. Interestingly enough, 007 is actually a slightly longer, wider, and taller vehicle:
Despite having two variants, both 007 Premium and Prime are powered by the same 73.48kWh LFP battery. Both versions also feature the same charging capability, which includes 6.6kW AC charging and DC charging speed of up to 200kW – this allows 007 to be charged from 30% to 80% in 11 minutes.
Built with a rear-mounted 200kW (268hp) electric motor that also produced 310Nm, the 007 Premium can hit 0 – 100km/h in 5.8 seconds. When it comes to range, the 007 Premium can deliver up to 650km of CLTC-rated range or 520km under the more stringent WLTP standards.
On the other hand, the 007 Prime’s range is much shorter at 565km according to the CLTC standards or 389km under WLTP. This does not come as a surprise since the Prime variant consumes more energy as it is equipped with two electric motors.
Furthermore, the 007 Prime has a much higher output than its Premium counterpart at 400kW (536hp) with 620Nm of torque. This allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
Other notable features that have been equipped into 007 across both variants include panoramic glass roof, vegan leather upholstery, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, 15.6-inch infotainment display, Wanos 19-speaker (including a pair in the driver’s headrest) surround audio system, 540-degree camera system, and L2 ADAS.
In Malaysia, the Dongfeng 007 Premium has a retail price of RM169,888 while the higher-end Prime option goes for RM195,888. With the RM8,888 launch rebate, their pricing are reduced to RM161,000 and RM187,000, respectively.
Now that the brand finally has two more models for Malaysia, Dongfeng shouldn’t be seen as a one-trick pony anymore. In addition to that, the brand kicked off 2026 by being the 12th most popular EV brand in Malaysia last month. However, both Vigo and 007 are still competing in a space dominated by established players.
While Vigo generally has only one direct rival in Malaysia, which is the BYD Atto 2, the 007 has to face BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3. Aside from direct rivals, Vigo and 007 also have to fend off alternative options that happen to be within the same price range, as Malaysia is a very price-sensitive market.
For Vigo, the challenge would be trying to convince potential customers why Dongfeng’s offering is a better option against the likes of Proton e.MAS 7, BYD Seal 6, BYD Atto 3 Ultra, and Leapmotor B10 – just to name a few. As for the 007, things are not easy as well with BYD Sealion 7, Zeekr 7X, and Tesla Model Y in its sights.
At the same time, Dongfeng, together with its local partners, Volt Auto and Central Auto Distributors (CADB) have to work together to increase the brand’s visibility in Malaysia, likely by expanding Dongfeng’s dealership and service network. All in all, it is a massive challenge up ahead to boost Dongfeng’s position in Malaysia, but as always, nothing is impossible.
