Smart lighting has largely been led by global brands such as Philips Hue and Dyson. A new Malaysian-developed option, Flux’s Helios Pendant Light, is entering the category with a product that focuses on visual comfort and biological safety.

Flux is a local brand created in partnership with Richard’s Prestige Lighting & Design, one of the largest decorative lighting manufacturers in the Asia Pacific. Its first product, the Helios Pendant Light, is a 1.2-metre-wide fixture designed for screen-heavy users working long hours under artificial light.

Pricing and availability of the Flux Helios Pendant Light

The Flux Helios Pendant Light retails at RM2,000, with a current pre-order price of RM1,699 available through fluxtech.my. Pre-orders close on 31 August 2025.

Product features and specifications

The Helios Pendant Light is TÜV-certified with an RG0 safety rating under the IEC R60 standard, indicating it meets global benchmarks for photobiological safety. It features:

  • 1.2m width with 1600 lux brightness
  • RA>95 colour rendering index
  • Low blue light diffusion
  • Flicker-free PWM driver to reduce invisible light fluctuations
  • 220V AC power input
  • Standard wall switch support, gesture-based motion sensing, and wireless remote control

The light includes four preset ambient modes:

  • Polynesia Sky – cool tones intended for productivity
  • Hungary Blue Hour – neutral white for balanced daytime lighting
  • Vanuatu Beach – warm tones for a more relaxed evening environment
  • Sabah Sunset – orange lighting to support melatonin production and winding down

The Helios is listed with a 50,000-hour lifespan and comes with a 1-year warranty.

Context and product direction

According to Flux, the Helios was developed in response to growing concerns over digital eye strain and prolonged screen exposure. The company cites internal observations and external studies indicating increased rates of visual fatigue, particularly among professionals working in digital environments.

Instead of focusing on colour-shifting effects or app-driven scenes, the Helios was positioned around certifications and lighting science, with an emphasis on comfort and wellness for regular screen users.
