After making its debut in China, the Honor Magic V5 has finally arrived here in Malaysia. Aside from this, Honor has also improved it in aspects such as its cameras and battery.

Battling against rivals such as Oppo’s Find N5. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Huawei’s Mate X6, the Honor Magic V5 is priced at:

  • Honor Magic V5 (16GB+512GB) – RM6,999

Yes, that’s the same price as last year’s Magic V3 when it first launched in Malaysia. Honor Magic V5 in Malaysia: Specs and features

As mentioned above, the Honor Magic V5 has beaten the world record as the thinnest book-style foldable smartphone. Specifically, it measures 8.8mm thick when folded and 4.1mm when unfolded.

Comparatively, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 8.9mm when folded and 4.2mm when unfolded, while the Oppo Find N5 measures 8.93mm and 4.2mm respectively.

But do note that the thickness of the Magic V5 depends on the colour option you choose. If you want the same figures as mentioned above, you would want to pick the Ivory White option. As for the rest of the colour options, namely Dawn Gold, Silk Brown, and Black, they measure just slightly chunkier at 9mm when folded and 4.2mm when opened up.

In terms of weight, the Honor Magic V5 weighs 217g. For context, the Find N5 weighs 229g while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 weighs the least among the three at 215g.

Impressively, Honor did not sacrifice the Magic V5’s durability in the pursuit of making it the world’s thinnest foldable. In fact, its IP rating has been enhanced to IP58/59, up from the Magic V3’s IPX8, making the V5 both dust and water resistant. Honor even demonstrated how tough its hinge is by using the V5 to hang a full size sofa and a dumbbell.

The Magic V5’s hinge is also said to be capable of enduring up to 500,000 folding cycles, which is equivalent to 100 folds per day and up to 13 years of usage.

Now, let’s talk about its display. Like before, you get a cover screen on the outside and a main display when you open up the phone. The cover display is a 6.43″ LTPO OLED with a reolution of 2376×1060 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

The main display on the other hand is also an 120Hz LTPO OLED panel that measures 7.95″ with a resolution of 2352×2172 pixels. Both the cover and main displays have the same peak brightness of 5,000 nits.

Powering the Honor Magic V5 is Qualcomm’s flagship mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite. In Malaysia, the device is paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Imaging-wise, the Honor Magic V5 like the V3 continues to get a 50MP f/1.6 main camera with OIS. But its ultra-wide-angle and periscope telephoto shooters have been upgraded to 50MP f/2.0 and 64MP f/2.5 (with OIS) units respectively. The periscope telephoto camera also come with 3x optical zoom cpabilities.

As for seflies and video calls, the Magic V5 comes with two punchhole 20MP cameras — one on the cover screen and another in the main scren.

Supplying power to the Honor Magic V5 is a 5,820mAh silicon carbon battery, which is around 13% larger than the V3’s battery. However, charging speeds are retained at a respectable 66W using USB-C and 50W via a Qi wireless charger.

Connectivity wise, the Honor Magic V5 packs 5G, WiFi 7, as well as Bluetooth 6.0. The phone also runs on Honor’s MagicOS 9.0.1, based on Android 15.
