Hari Raya Aidilfitri 50% toll discount on 28 to 29 Mar for Class 1 vehicles

The government will implement a 50% discount on the toll rate in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri holidays. The move was announced by the Works Minister, Alexander Nanta Linggi, after it was approved during the Cabinet meeting this morning.

Similar to the implementation during the Chinese New Year a few months ago, the 50% discount can only be obtained on specific days and times. For this Raya season, it will be implemented at 12:01 AM on Friday, 28 March 2025 and valid until 11:59 PM on Saturday, 29 March 2025.

The upcoming 50% discount on toll fares will be implemented at almost all toll plazas except Sultan Iskandar Building and Tanjung Kupang in Johor. In addition to that, this discount only applies to Class 1 vehicles.

In a statement, Alexander said the government estimates that the cost for this year’s Hari Raya toll discounts is RM19.69 million. This year’s implementation is essentially the continuation of the government’s commitment to provide toll discounts during the festive seasons in 2025.

As noted in our previous report, it is unclear at the moment whether this policy is a permanent replacement for the previous toll-free travel approach. The minister has previously said that the government wanted to replace the previous toll-free travel policy with a “more targeted approach” but did not reveal any details at that time.

Naturally, the new policy is expected to significantly reduce the amount of payment that the government has to pay to the toll concessionaires. In 2024, the government had to fork out over RM200 million to implement toll-free travel during Chinese New Year, Hair Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali, and Christmas.
