Tesla Supercharger i-City Shah Alam to go live soon: Skudai, Southkey JB, PJ, Ipoh might be next

Tesla has already established 56 Superchargers across Peninsular Malaysia and the company is certainly not stopping anytime soon. A new Tesla Supercharger site has been established in Shah Alam and it seems ready to serve Tesla owners very soon.

Mercu Maybank i-City is the fifth Tesla Supercharger location in Selangor

The new site is located in the basement parking of Mercu Maybank in i-City Shah Alam. It is the latest addition to Tesla Supercharger’s network in Selangor which already includes Sunway Pyramid, Gamuda Cove Kuala Langat, IOI Mall Puchong, and Tesla Service Centre Cyberjaya.

The local Tesla and EV communities have spotted this site for quite a while but this is the first time that we’ve visited it ourselves. Four Tesla Supercharger V4 have been installed at this site together with two Destination Chargers and they are located right in front of the parking entrance.

Speaking about parking, here’s how much it cost to park at Mercu Maybank at the moment:

  • Mon to Thu (6:00 AM to 6:00 PM): RM3.00 for the 1st hour, RM2.00 for every subsequent 1 hour
  • Mon to Thu (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM), Fri, Sun, Public & School Holidays: RM3.00 for the 1st hour, RM3.00 for every subsequent 1 hour
  • Maximum daily fee (6:00 AM to 5:59 AM of the following day): RM30.00

Even though everything may have seemed to be in place, this particular Tesla Supercharger site is not yet operational. In fact, you can see a group of plastic bollards that are still blocking the area.

Tesla now shares the development status of upcoming Supercharger sites

Tesla has recently updated its policy in regards to the listing of upcoming Supercharger sites on the company’s Find Us map. As part of the new policy, the company is now committed to providing monthly status updates on locations that will go live soon.

As an example, the new Supercharger site in i-City is listed as Under Construction on the map. At the moment, the map also listed three Supercharger sites that have been categorised as In Development which include R&R Skudai and Mid Valley Southkey Johor Bahru.

Petaling Jaya has also been listed as an In Development site but the pinned location is the flyover on top of the Federal Highway next to Sheraton PJ. Hence, we are not sure what to make out of it.

Meanwhile, Ipoh still has the same Target opening date to be confirmed label attached to it just like when the location was pinned on Tesla’s map back in mid-2023. On the other hand, The Gardens Mall is missing from the map altogether despite it being announced by Tesla Malaysia as one of the upcoming Supercharger sites a few months ago.
