Xiaomi has just launched its latest budget-oriented tablet under its Redmi brand, the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 and the cellular-capable Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G here in Malaysia. As its name suggests, the latter option comes with 4G support, featuring dual SIM card slots.
The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 in Malaysia can be had with one storage option, namely the 128GB+6GB variant. The Pad SE 8.7 4G is also offered with an additional 64GB+4GB option. Prices for the Android tablet are as follows:
Customers can purchase the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 at authorised physical Xiaomi stores, or online at Xiaomi’s official website, as well as Xiaomi’s official stores on Shopee and Lazada.
Between now and the 1st of September 2024, Xiaomi is offering an early bird promotion for the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 models. This deal consists of a free cover worth RM149, as well as discounts for selected models, while stocks last. Further details of the promotion are listed below:
The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 as well as its 4G-capable counterpart come with three colour options, namely Graphite Grey, Aurora Green, and Sky Blue. Both models boast thin and light designs, measuring just 8.8mm thick. In terms of weight, the regular Wi-Fi model measures 373g, while the 4G model measures 375g.
At the face of the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 tablet is, as its name suggests, an HD+ 8.7-inch display (1340×800 pixels) with a 90Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi says this panel is able to crank itself up to 600 nits via outdoor mode and has a 1500:1 contrast ratio. It also has a 10-bit colour depth and is capable of displaying a total of 1 billion colours.
Xiaomi says it has designed the Redmi Pad SE 8.7’s display with a 5:3 aspect ratio to make using it for reading or web browsing easier with just one hand. Speaking of reading, the tablet comes with two reading modes, Paper and Classic, to improve comfort during extended reading sessions and suit different user preferences and environments, whether in bright daylight or dimly lit rooms.
Under the hood of the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 is an octa-core MediaTek Helio G85 processor. Storage-wise, the regular Pad SE 8.7 gets the sole option of 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM. The cellular-capable model on the other also gets an additional option with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM.
In case you need even more storage, there is also a microSD slot that can expand the storage space by up to 2TB. A feature that’s no longer common these days. Speaking of rare things, there’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack here, just in case your wireless headphones run out of juice. But when at home, you can always enjoy your content using the dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. Pictures and videos with the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 can be taken using either the 8MP f/2.0 rear camera or the 5MP f/2.2 front camera.
Both variants of the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 are packed with the same 6,650mAh battery pack. Charging the battery can be done at up to 18W via fast wired charging, which is said to juice up the tablet from flat to full in under 1 hour and 20 minutes. The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 and Pad SE 8.7 4G come shipped with Xiaomi’s HyperOS skin, based on Android 14.
