Don’t like Exynos? Samsung Galaxy S25 series will run exclusively on Snapdragon but here’s the bad news

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is an impressive Android flagship smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, not many are happy that the standard Galaxy S24 and S24+ models are running on an Exynos 2400 chip.

For next year’s Galaxy S25 series, it appears that Qualcomm will be the exclusive SoC supplier. As revealed by analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, the Galaxy S25 lineup including the base Galaxy S25 model will be running on Qualcomm’s next flagship mobile chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

According to Kuo, Samsung may not ship its Exynos 2500 due to the company’s lower-than-expected 3nm yield. This isn’t the first time Samsung has skipped Exynos (Exynos 2300) for its flagship lineup as the Galaxy S23 series was exclusively running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy.

Qualcomm will likely be the sole SoC supplier for the Samsung Galaxy S25 (vs. 40% for the S24), as the Exynos 2500 may not ship due to Samsung's lower-than-expected 3nm yield.

In addition to the significant increase in supply share, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will see a price…

While the latest news is great for power users who prefer Qualcomm chips for their performance and battery life, consumers may have to pay more for their brand-new Galaxy smartphone. According to Kuo, Qualcomm’s upcoming 8 Gen 4 chip will cost approximately 25-30% more.

Kuo also added that TSMC will be the exclusive supplier of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The new chips will be manufactured based on the N3E 3nm process which promises better power, performance and density.

To recap, the Galaxy S24 starts from RM4,099 while the Galaxy S24+ is priced from RM4,899. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 Ultra starts from RM6,299 and up to RM7,799 for the 1TB storage version. With the new price increase for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, it would be interesting to see if Samsung could still maintain its current prices for the next Galaxy flagship, especially for its compact base model.
