Great Wall Motor Malaysia has announced a special promotion for its sole model, the Ora Good Cat, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festive season. The company is offering a rebate of up to RM20,000 for its cute and cuddly electric hatchback, which is priced at RM140,500 for the 400 Pro and RM170,500 for the 500 Ultra (both figures are on-the-road without insurance).
Ora Good Cat rebate
Taken at face value, this means the Good Cat could be had from around RM120,000 for the base model, while the long-range version should be slightly over the RM150,000 mark. That makes it quite good value against its only real rival, the BYD Atto 3, which retails around the same price as the Good Cat originally, at RM140,350 for the Standard variant and RM168,430 for the Extended model with the larger battery.
If this promo sounds familiar, that’s because GWM Malaysia offered the same RM20,000 rebate back in November. This suggests that the company is having trouble moving the car off dealer lots—especially next to the roaring success of the Atto 3 and its smaller Dolphin sibling. That’s a shame, as we found the Good Cat to be a likeable city runabout, hampered only by its subpar user interface.
Free wallbox charger worth RM5,500
To sweeten the deal, GWM Malaysia is also offering a free AC wallbox charger worth RM5,500 with every purchase of the Good Cat, which should enable owners to charge the car at home at the maximum of 6.6kW. This will fill the 400 Pro’s 47.79kWh battery in 8 hours, with the 500 Ultra’s larger 63.14kWh unit taking slightly longer at 10 hours. The company says the promotion will only be applicable to certain colours and model years (presumably 2023 units only).
Ora Good Cat quick specs
No matter which variant you go for, you get a front-wheel-drive hatchback powered by a single front motor, producing 105kW (141hp) and 210Nm of torque. This propels the Good Cat from zero to 100km/h in 9.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 152km/h.
The main difference between the two versions is the range—the 400 Pro can travel a WLTP-rated 310km, whereas the 500 Ultra goes quite a bit farther, hitting 410km. Aside from the aforementioned 6.6kW of AC charging, the Good Cat can also support up to 60kW of DC fast charging, taking 32 minutes to top up the 400 Pro’s battery to 80% and 40 minutes for the 500 Ultra.
