Besides the new Redmi Note 13 series, Xiaomi has also debuted the latest Redmi Buds 5, the latest iteration of its budget-focused wireless earbuds. As before, the series is split into regular and Redmi Buds 5 Pro variants; are in-ear models but with different specifications for each.

The Aurora Purple version gets a neat pastel green insert for the charging case that’s visible when you open the lid, while the Midnight Black variant has a vegan leather exterior. Meanwhile, the Buds 5 will be offered in Black, White or Sky Blue and come in a matte charging case with a gloss insert that houses a light strip.
Redmi Buds 5 Pro specs and features
Let’s start with the more advanced version, the Redmi Buds 5 Pro. Like their Buds 4 Pro, these feature a unique dual-driver design, but these have been made larger. The bass drivers with titanium-plated (previously made from aluminium alloy) diaphragms have grown to 11mm, while the tweeters are now piezoelectric ceramic units and are much larger at 10mm. Xiaomi says this delivers a “more natural and open” sound experience and richer treble.
The company has also increased the level of active noise cancellation from 43dB to 52dB over a frequency range of 4kHz, while the transparency mode gains a new setting that enhances ambient sounds for increased spatial awareness, in addition to the existing regular and voice enhancement settings. As before, the ANC system features an AI-driven adaptive mode that switches between the three noise cancellation levels.
In terms of battery life, Xiaomi is promising ten hours (up from nine hours previously) of listening time and 38 hours (up from 36 hours) with the charging case included; both figures are with ANC turned off. Other features include support for LDAC Hi-Res wireless audio, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and five built-in EQ profiles, including new Music and Video Modes.
Redmi Buds 5 specs and features
The more basic Redmi Buds 5 utilises larger 12.4mm titanium-plated drivers, but without the additional tweeters. To compensate, the buds feature an “independent sound chamber” that is claimed to improve dynamic frequency response and increase sound consistency.
As with the Buds 5 Pro, the Buds 5 get increased ANC over the Buds 4, from 35dB to 46dB; it also gets its sibling’s new ambient enhancement setting for the transparency mode. Battery life has been boosted massively to ten hours (up from six hours previously), or a whopping 40 hours (up from 36 hours) with the charging case included. The Buds 5 also gets Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and four built-in EQ profiles.
