Convergent Distribution is now the new official distributor for Nintendo Switch in Malaysia. According to the announcement on the company’s official Facebook page, this applies not only to the Switch consoles but also to their games as well.
This is a rather interesting development for the local video games market as Nintendo products in Malaysia have been distributed by the Singapore-based Maxsoft for many years. So, what does this mean for gamers in Malaysia then?
A new service centre for Malaysian customers

While Nintendo itself has not yet made any announcement via its official website or Nintendo SEA’s Facebook page, Convergent Malaysia’s office address and e-mail address have been listed as the contact point for customer and repair services on Nintendo Malaysia’s website.
Located at the Amoda Building in Jalan Imbi, Bukit Bintang, the website noted that the office is also an Authorised Nintendo Service Centre. With the lack of a direct announcement from Nintendo, this is as official as it gets.
Then again, the company is certainly not new to the task. After all, Convergent has also been appointed as the distributor for Nintendo Switch products in Singapore back in 2021.
New Nintendo Official Stores on Lazada and Shopee

As part of its new responsibility as the official distributor of Nintendo Switch in Malaysia, Convergent is now managing the newly opened Nintendo Official Store on Lazada and Shopee. The general idea behind the two new e-commerce stores is to make Switch products easily available everywhere, according to the company.
This brings us to the distributor’s next point: making Switch products available in more places.
Wider accessibility to Switch products

Aside from the two official online stores, Convergent also said that it is committed to bringing Switch products to both West and East Malaysia. In its announcement, the company said that these products can soon be obtained through major retailers and shopping malls nationwide.
The announcement also noted that gamers can also expect to see promotions, game launches and even trial events at major shopping centres soon. While it is still early days, it seems that Convergent has some big plans for Nintendo Switch in Malaysia.
What’s next for Maxsoft?

To be frank, we don’t know what is going to happen to Maxsoft moving forward but several signs indicate that the company will remain as it is. For one, its Malaysian subsidiary, M.M.Soft is still listed on Nintendo Malaysia’s website as an Authorised Nintendo Service Centre.
In addition to that, M.M.Soft’s official Shopee Malaysia store is also still operational. So, the impact might be quite subtle for gamers out there at the moment.
In the end, it is still up to the deals that you are going to get at your favourite game shops. Nevertheless, if you are someone who prioritises local warranty, then do keep a look for a Convergent sticker before you buy a Switch console or game in order to get your purchase covered by the new official distributor.
