The next iPhone SE may use iPhone 15 features. Here’s what to expect

While it is going to be some time to go before it is launching, but leakers are already sharing juicy information nuggets about the upcoming Apple iPhone SE 4, including that it will share the same features as the recently launched iPhone 15 Pro, but for a lower price.

Anonymous sources talked to MacRumors saying that Apple is internally testing some stuff to see if it can work together for the upcoming iPhone SE 4. Codenamed ‘Ghost’, the phone will definitely see upgrades when compared to the iPhone SE 3, but at this point, it is still unsure which ones will stick and be part of the new model.

Some of the new features being tested are:

  • Using the iPhone 14 chassis
  • Replacing the toggle switch with the Action Button
  • USB C port
  • Single 48MP camera at the back
  • OLED Display
  • Face ID

Out of the list of potential features above, the Action Button inclusion is the most outlandish as the action button was just announced this year, and it calls for a retool for the phone chassis. However, it could also be an indication that next year’s vanilla iPhone 16 may feature the Action Button, which is only available in the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max for this year.

The others on the list are more plausible as it is expected that within 2 years, the economics of scale would have caught up with Apple and features like the USB-C port and OLED display would be feasible for the budget-oriented iPhone SE 4.

For the camera, the source that talked to MacRumors said that the arrangement would be similar to the current iPhone SE 3 – a single camera sensor plus the flash. However, as the iPhone 14 has a larger camera module area than the iPhone SE 3 (which was based on the iPhone 7/8 body), we may see a different layout on the new phone.

Lastly, fans of the Touch ID may need to come to terms that the last bastion of the fingerprint scanner for iOS will be moving to Face ID biometrics instead. Soon, the entire iPhone line will be fully Face ID, and the age of physical fingerprint authentication will be going the way of the dodo.

Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo has previously said that Apple may include its own 5G base modem in the iPhone SE 4, but there are other analysts online that doubt that Apple can create the modem in time for the new phone launch.

Don’t forget to check out our review of last year’s iPhone SE to see what the lower-cost Apple experience is like.
