The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued notices to Celcom, Maxis, YTL and Telekom Malaysia for failing to meet the Mandatory Standard of Quality of Service (MSQoS). This comes after the regulator conducted an audit at Taman Ambassador Village, Durian Tunggal in Melaka on 1st September. The MCMC has received complaints of poor reception by the local residents.
According to the MCMC, the notices to the four telcos were issued under subsection 51 (2) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA 1998) and they are required to provide an explanation and plans to provide interim and long-term solutions to tackle the coverage issues at Taman Ambassador Village.
According to the Jendela Map, Ambassador Village is currently covered by several mobile telcos but there are spotty locations that are out of coverage. As shown above, there’s a spot where only U Mobile is providing 4G access.
According to the MCMC, there are current plans to improve the quality of telco services at the location. This includes the deployment of fibre optic network under JENDELA. The fibre network project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023 which will benefit approximately 250 residents.
Under the current MSQoS, all telcos must provide at least 2.5Mbps download throughput 90% of the time for mobile and at least 25Mbps download 90% of the time for fixed wireless access. For wired broadband, telcos must provide 70% of the subscribed speed for DSL and 90% of the subscribed speed for fibre, 90% of the time.
