As announced yesterday, Maxis finally is offering 5G to customers as they have signed the 5G access agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad. The new 5G-enabled postpaid plans start from RM79/month and they all come with bonus 5G data between 40GB to 100GB.
Here’s a breakdown of all the new Maxis Postpaid Plans with 5G data:
- RM79/month – 80GB 4G/5G + Bonus 40GB 5G
- RM109/month – 100GB 4G/5G + Bonus 50GB 5G
- RM139/month – 120GB 4G/5G + Bonus 60GB 5G
- RM169/month – 150GB 4G/5G + Bonus 75GB 5G
- RM199/month – 200GB 4G/5G + Bonus 100GB 5G
Besides the new cheaper RM79/month option which comes with 80GB 4G/5G base data and Bonus 40GB 5G data, the rest of the plans are essentially upgraded from the previous plans (Maxis Postpaid 98). However, if you switch over, you will get more than double the data but you’ll have to pay slightly more.
For example, the recently upgraded Maxis Postpaid 98 plan currently offers 60GB 4G data for RM98/month, while the new Maxis Postpaid 109 now offers 100GB 4G/5G + Bonus 50GB 5G, which is 150GB for 5G in total. That’s essentially 2.5X the data for RM11/month extra.
Existing Postpaid customers who are not ready to switch to the newer plans can try 5G for free for the first month by activating the 5G pass on the Maxis app. This pass is also required for any supplementary line under the existing 4G postpaid plans. After that, the Maxis 5G pass costs RM10/month. If you need 5G permanently, it is recommended to just switch to the newer plans as you get even more data for an extra RM11/month.
If you plan to have additional share lines for other family members, you’ll have to subscribe to Maxis Postpaid 109 and above. At the time of writing, the Maxis Postpaid Share 48 remains unchanged with 30GB of data for RM48/month. If the main principal line is on the new Postpaid 109 and above, the supplementary lines will get 5G access with no extra charge.
If you’re currently enjoying unlimited 4G data on your Maxis postpaid and supplementary lines, you can also enjoy unlimited 5G data by activating the 5G pass.
To use 5G, you need a 5G smartphone, be within Digital Nasional Berhad’s 5G coverage area and have a 5G-enabled plan.
