OnePlus now offers lifetime screen warranty over green line issue, but not in Malaysia

If you’ve been following the latest in tech news, you might have noticed that reports of users reporting random green lines on their smartphone displays have been on the rise over the last number of months. In response to this, it seems that OnePlus is now offering its users a lifetime screen warranty over the green line issue.

Unfortunately, if you’re a Malaysian reading this on your OnePlus with green lines across the screen, this won’t apply to you. OnePlus is currently offering only their users in India this lifetime screen warranty for now, with all Indian users able to visit the nearest OnePlus service centre and arrange for a free screen replacement. With the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 9 series in particular, OnePlus India will offer users a voucher with a ‘fair percentage’ of the device value for them to use on a new OnePlus device if a screen replacement isn’t possible.

In fact, the green line issue has become so rampant among OnePlus users in India that one user who went to his local OnePlus service centre found a notice on the window stating that they’ve run our of spare parts for the OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 9, in part also because the product has reached the end of its life cycle. The notice also shows that users of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 9 series models with the green line issue can get up to 85.72% off the OnePlus 10R, an India-only models.

While OnePlus is only addressing their India user base at the moment, it’s still nice to see a major manufacturer step up and acknowledge the issue as well as provide some solution to the issue. That being said, OnePlus is far from the only Android smartphone manufacturer whose devices have been reported with a green line across the screen. Users of smartphones from the likes of Samsung, Oppo, Realme, Vivo, Xiaomi, Motorola, Huawei, Nothing and others have all reported seeing green lines appear on their screen already, irrespective of how expensive or cheap it was.
