Acer Nitro 16: AMD powered gaming laptops with RTX 40 series GPUs, starting at RM5,799

It has taken Acer quite a while to bring the new Nitro 16 to our shores, but after first making its global debut at CES 2023 at the start of the year, the entry-level laptop is finally launching in Malaysia. The new laptop drops the ‘5’ and—like the Acer Swift lineup—now carries the number based on its display size instead, hence the new Nitro 16 name.

The new Nitro 16 is now available at all Acer stores nationwide, with Acer also having a launch promotion that sees all customers who get a Nitro 16 from now till 17 August also be eligible to redeem a Cestus 335 gaming mouse and a Predator Gaming Urban Backpack V2 worth over RM500. Acer Nitro 16 specs

Certainly at first glance you will notice that the traditionally budget friendly Nitro 16 is now starting at a much higher price tag. This is likely because the Nitro 16 no longer has a Ryzen 5 or Intel Core i5 tier anymore, instead starting with an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS and rising to a Ryzen 9 7940HS processor. Similarly, there is no longer a base model with 8GB of RAM, with the Nitro 16 featuring either 16GB or 32GB of DDR5 RAM, with up to 1TB of PCIe NVME SSD storage.

As for graphics, the base model Nitro 16 will come with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 with 6GB of VRAM. You’ll also find options with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 with 8GB of VRAM, as well as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 with 8GB of VRAM on the top end configuration. That GPU will be powering the 16-inch, 16:10 WQXGA IPS display that’s also capable of a 165Hz refresh rate. Keeping all the silicon cool meanwhile is a dual fan, dual intake cooling setup with liquid metal thermal grease on the CPU.

Other features of note include a 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard, a HD webcam, a 90Wh battery as well as speakers with DTS X:Ultra Audio tuning. For I/O, the Nitro 16 has a HDMI 2.1 port, two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a USB-A 2.0 port, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a microSD card reader, an Ethernet port and a 3.5mm combo audio jack, along with support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1 wireless connectivity.
