Redmagic, a gaming smartphone brand, is releasing what appears to be the most gaming-centric GaN charger ever. While most GaN chargers offer multi-device charging capability in a compact size, this RedMagic 150W Smart GaN charger is not only powerful but also gets RGB lights and even a tiny screen.

The RedMagic 150W Smart GaN Charger is currently listed on Kickstarter with over USD 13,000 (about RM59,572) backed so far. The charger itself is listed with a price tag of USD 229 (about RM1,049) but early birds can back this project for USD 149 (about RM682) which is 35% off. That’s quite a lot to pay for a GaN charger but it does offer additional “cool” features that you won’t get from other chargers.
For starters, it has two USB-C ports that can push up to a maximum of 140W as well as a USB-A port that can push up to 30W. What’s interesting is that it has a barrel-style DC port rated at 150W which apparently can deliver a peak power of 180W and a high current of 7.5A, which supposedly can fast charge high-power gaming laptops.

In total, the RedMagic 150W Smart GaN can charge up to 4 devices simultaneously. Obviously, the total charging capacity is distributed accordingly if multiple devices are connected at the same time. To get the maximum 150W or 140W power to charge a laptop, you could only use one port at a time.
According to RedMagic, the charger can charge a MacBook Pro 16 to 50% in just 30 minutes. Below is a sample of the power distribution for the GaN charger.

To stand out from the crowd, this desktop GaN charger gets a semi-transparent design and you can programme dynamic RGB light effects from an app. It also has a small 1.5″ TFT screen to show your current charging status and you can also show a live standby wallpaper which can be configured from an app. There’s a touch-sensitive sensor on the side which allows you to toggle between different content for the display.

According to the Kickstarter listing, the Gan charger uses a “Dao” 5th generation GaN chip and it has a dual heat dissipation system using copper plates and gel to improve cooling. The charger also claims to offer multiple safety protection including protection against overcurrent, overvoltage, short circuit and over temperature. It also supports a variety of charging protocols including PowerDeliver 3.1, PPS, QC4+, SCP, FCP, AFC and Apple2.4.
From the pictures, the RedMagic charger looks like a cassette type but it is pretty heavy at 870g. You can learn more on RedMagic’s Charger page.
