While HP might not exactly be the first name that pops up in your head when talking about gaming hardware, the American giant does actually have a competent suite of gaming laptops under their brand. As part of their more entry-level gaming laptops targeting budding gamers or simply those on a budget, HP has the Victus 16 gaming laptop, which they’ve just launched the latest refresh of in Malaysia.

The Victus 16 certainly looks like a gaming machine, with a sleek finish over the lid complemented by the ‘V’ logo embossed into the centre. Under the hood, you’ll have your pick between AMD or Intel, with HP offering the latest generation of mobile silicon regardless of which team you choose. On the AMD side, you’ll find Ryzen 7040 series processors up to the Ryzen 7 7840H, while on Team Blue you’ll find 13th Gen Intel Core HX-series chips, topping out at the Intel Core i7-13700HX.

Mated to these processors is 16GB of DDR5-4800MHz RAM on the Intel machines and 16GB of DDR5-5600MHz RAM on the AMD machines, along with 512GB of PCIe Gen4 SSD storage, running Windows 11 out of the box. When you’re gaming, you’ll find up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 mobile graphics card in the Victus 16, though lower end models will feature the RTX 4060, RTX 4050 with the base model using the GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card.

As for its display you’ll find a 16.1-inch, FHD IPS display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 250nits of brightness. Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a 70Wh or an 83Wh battery, depending on the configuration of the Victus 16 that you opt for. There’s also of course an RGB backlit keyboard, along with stereo speakers tuned by B&O, as well as a privacy shutter over the 1080p webcam. As for I/O you’ll find three USB-A 5Gbps ports, a USB-C 5Gbps port, an Ethernet jack a HDMI 2.1 port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Victus 16 also has support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity.

If you’re keen on the Victus 16, the laptop starts off at RM4,149 for the AMD-powered machines, with the Intel ones starting at RM4,399, topping out at RM6,199 and RM6,299 for the Intel and AMD machines with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics cards respectively. You can find them already on sale at the HP Malaysia website.
