Berjaya Times Square currently has the best DC fast chargers in downtown Kuala Lumpur and it is a popular stop for EVs that require a quick top up. Installed and managed by ChargEV, these Kempower chargers are capable of pushing a maximum of 320kW and they can charge an EV with 800V architecture from 10-80% in less than 20 minutes.
Berjaya Times Square DC chargers are inaccessible during events
As announced by ChargEV, these chargers will be unavailable for at least once a month, due to scheduled events held at Berjaya Times Square. ChargEV recommends EV owners to use their slower AC chargers located at the B1 basement parking during the above-specified dates.
Take note that ChargEV’s DC fast chargers at Berjaya Times Square are not available for an event despite the app showing that they are available. Berjaya Times Square and chargEV should consider moving their chargers to a different location https://t.co/QosV1Bn7U3 pic.twitter.com/OP1UsMT71R

The fastest EV chargers in downtown KL being unavailable during events is not acceptable in this day and age, especially when there’s an increased demand for chargers as more EVs hit the road. Imagine an entire petrol station being closed for at least once a month due to some random event.
Berjaya Times Square and ChargEV should relocate these chargers
As a crucial infrastructure, Berjaya Times Square and ChargEV should ensure that these EV chargers are accessible and available 365 days a year without interruption. At the moment, the current location at the main entrance isn’t ideal as it takes up valet parking lots and it can get really congested during peak hours. On top of that, the valet attendants have complained about other vehicles occupying these lots and they have tried cones or even placing a motorcycle to block non-charging vehicles.
Perhaps, the management should consider moving these chargers to other less congested areas with lower traffic. One optimal area could be around the East Entrance near a 7-Eleven, where drivers can drop in to buy refreshments. Alternatively, these DC chargers could be placed in the basement parking similar to Gentari’s DC fast chargers at Suria KLCC. Since these Kempower chargers offer dynamic power-sharing, ChargEV could install even more satellite units to allow more EVs to be charged at the same time while maximising power utilisation.
At the time of writing, ChargEV has extended the promotional rates of RM1.20 per kWh for these Kempower chargers. It is currently the cheapest DC fast charger in Klang Valley that’s capable of pushing more than 200kW. As a comparison, Gentari’s 350kW DC Charger at XPark Sunway Serene now costs RM1.70 per kWh.
