In case you missed it, the bang-for-buck Redmi 12 is making its way to Malaysia. Xiaomi’s latest budget smartphone will be going for as low as RM499 on its launch day, but if you opt for the higher spec option, Xiaomi Malaysia will also throw in a pair of true wireless earbuds for free too.

There will be two models of the Redmi 12 coming to Malaysia, with the base model packing 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for RM599 while the higher spec model features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for RM699. Xiaomi Malaysia had previously revealed that during its first online sale for the Redmi 12, the 128GB option will be RM100 off, meaning it’s priced at just RM499 on 15 July 2023.

However, Xiaomi is now also giving those who get the Redmi 12 with 256GB of storage a free pair of Redmi Buds 4 Lite worth RM139 on 15th July. Do note though that this promotion will only be available at selected retail outlets nationwide, which are:

  1. Kompleks Bukit Jambul, Pulang Pinang
  2. Plaza Low Yat, Kuala Lumpur
  3. Satu Gadget Menara PGRM, Kuala Lumpur
  4. Plaza Metro Kajang, Selangor
  5. DirectD Gadget Mega Store PJ, Selangor
  6. Rawang Walk, Selangor
  7. Kompleks Karamunsing, Sabah
  8. Kota Bahru Mall, Kelantan
  9. Kuantan Parade, Pahang
  10. Kipmart Tampou JB, Johor
  11. Plaza Hang Tuah, Melaka
  12. AEON Mall Kuching Central, Sarawak
  13. Ipoh Parade, Perak

As such, if you’re keen on the Redmi 12, you’ll have to decide between a RM100 discount for the 128GB model or a free pair of earbuds if you prefer the 256GB Redmi 12 instead.

Redmi 12 specs

The Redmi 12 starts off looking rather good, with a huge 6.79-inch, FHD+ IPS display that’s capable of a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 550nits. It also looks good from the back, with Xiaomi giving its entry level device a premium-looking glass back design and flat edges on the sides and back.

Under the hood meanwhile, the Redmi 12 packs a MediaTek Helio G88 processor with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. You’ll also be able to add up to 1TB of expandable storage, as well as up to 8GB of virtual extended RAM. The Redmi 12 comes with Android 13 out of the box, with MIUI 14 skinned over it.

In the camera department meanwhile, the Redmi 12 gets a triple rear camera setup, with a main 50MP, f/1.8 camera flanked by an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide shooter as well as a 2MP, f/2.4 macro lens. Up front you’ll also find an 8MP front facing camera for all your selfie needs, with both the rear main camera and front camera capable of up to 1080p recording at 30fps.

Other features of note include a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging via USB-C. It’s a 4G-only device with WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3 support too. You also get a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a headphone jack along with an IP53 dust and water resistance rating with the Redmi 12.
