Malaysia’s three biggest EV Charge Point Operators (CPO) – ChargEV, Gentari and JomCharge have successfully enabled EV roaming, which allows users to access chargers on different networks from the same app. Setel, which is the primary app to activate Gentari EV chargers, is the only app that provides Mesra points for EV charging. If you’re wondering if you can earn Mesra points for EV roaming, well, the answer is yes.
In case you missed it, Setel is currently running a promo until 14th July 2023 where you can earn 3x Mesra points for every ringgit spent for EV charging, parking, Motor Takaful & insurance, road tax renewal and Kedai Mesra purchases. Effectively, you’re getting 3% cashback as 1 Mesra Point is valued at 1 sen.
We tried using the Setel app to activate ChargEV’s DC fast charger at Berjaya Times Square and we managed to earn 40 Mesra Points for 10.2kWh of charge that costs RM13.20. Getting 40 Mesra points is a pretty good deal and that’s more than you get for pumping petrol. At the moment, the Kempower DC fast charger units capable of up to 320kW are priced at RM1.20 per kWh until 30th June 2023.
To recap, Petronas rewards users between 1 to 3 Mesra points (depending on Mesra membership level) for every litre of fuel purchased. If you buy 10 litres of RON95 petrol, worth RM20.50, you are only getting 30 Mesra Points on the “Hero” tier.
Take note that the current EV Roaming feature is only available at four locations namely Berjaya Times Square, Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Suria KLCC and X Park Sunway Serene. EV roaming for more chargers will be enabled soon and users will be able to access more than 600 EV chargers from their preferred EV Charging app.
