Maxis has entered a partnership with Ideal Property Group to expand its fibre broadband offering to more homes and businesses in Penang. With this partnership, Maxis says it will leverage its own fibre build to deliver a superior internet experience and offer attractive fibre propositions to mixed developments in Penang Island and Butterworth.
As part of the agreement, Maxis will design, supply and install telecommunications infrastructure for fixed services in 12 commercial and residential projects which comprise 12,000 business premises and homes. The green telco added that the move represents its ongoing collaboration with property developers in Malaysia to provide high-speed broadband and connectivity solutions.
Among the commercial developments that Maxis will be serving are Penang Technology Park@Bertam and Penang International Exchange 1 & 2. Penang Technology Park is expected to bring in potential investors for industries such as semiconductors, medical devices, aerospace and others.
Commenting on the partnership, Maxis’ Acting Chief Enterprise Business Officer Claire Featherstone said “As a leading converged connectivity provider, Maxis is pleased to partner with Ideal Property Group. Through our own fibre network, capabilities and attractive propositions, there are immense possibilities for digital services for more homes and businesses.”
Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Ideal Property Group, Tan Sri Datuk Alex Ooi Kee Liang, said “Connectivity today has become such an essential part of our lives and work, and we are committed to developing more connected homes and townships to meet the digital lifestyles of our customers. Maxis’ capabilities in network infrastructure and services will certainly add value to our townships and the partnership is an important step towards realising our vision of becoming a world-class property developer.”
Maxis says it is seeing good traction in its fibre proposition and consistent growth of fibre connections. As of the end of 2022, Maxis has 669,000 home connections and claims to have expanded its broadband access connectivity through wider deployment to underserved areas. Besides home users, the telco also builds fibre networks for enterprises and offers a wide range of fibre connectivity solutions for a truly converged experience.
Back in 2019, Maxis claims to have the widest fibre broadband access in Malaysia as it has access agreements with various fibre networks including TM HSBB, SACOFA, Celcom Timur Sabah and TNB’s Allo.
According to MCMC’s recent JENDELA report, Malaysia has a total of 7.74 million fibre-passed premises as of the end of 2022. This exceeds its initial JENDELA Phase 1 target of 7.5 million fibre-passed premises.
