The Redmi Note 12 series finally debuts with four models, all packing 120Hz AMOLED displays

Over a year since the Redmi Note 11 series debuted, Xiaomi has finally announced the global availability of its successor, the Redmi Note 12 lineup. Always a popular choice among buyers looking for a bang-for-buck smartphone, the Redmi Note 12 series features four models for people to pick from: the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 12 5G and the Redmi Note 12.

Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G and Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G specs

The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G and the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G shares a number of features across the board, though the Plus variant certainly has some notable upgrades over the non-Plus model.

Starting with the display, the two smartphones have a 6.67-inch, FHD+ ‘Flow’ AMOLED display with Xiaomi claiming that the ‘Flow AMOLED’ display gives it slimmer bezels and a superb immersive visual experience. This display is also capable of pushing a 120Hz refresh rate, with a peak brightness of 900nits and support for Dolby Vision. There’s also a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 over it for scratch resistance.

Under the hood meanwhile, the two Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G and the Note 12 Pro 5G come with a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 system-on-chip, the same one found on its midrange rival the Samsung Galaxy A34. This gets mated to up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. It comes with Android 12 out of the box, with a skin of MIUI 13 over it.

In the camera department meanwhile, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G has a triple rear camera setup with a main 50MP camera flanked by an 8MP ultrawide shooter and a 2MP macro. While that’s pretty solid already, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G has an even more impressive 200MP main camera, flanked by the same 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro cameras. Both devices also share the same 16MP front facing camera.

Other features of note include a 5,000mAh battery on both smartphones, though the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G gets a faster 120W fast charging compared to the non-Plus’ 67W fast charging. They also come with stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack along with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster, as well as support for 5G, WiFi 6, NFC and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity.

Local availability has yet to be confirmed, but in Europe the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G starts at EUR499 (~RM2,382.47) while the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G starts at EUR399 (~RM1,905.02).

Redmi Note 12 5G specs

As for the Redmi Note 12 5G, it has a display of the same size as the Pro models, but the 6.67-inch, FHD+ screen here doesn’t have the ‘Flow AMOLED’ display. It instead has a regular AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 1200nits with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 over it.

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 12 5G features the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, a relatively new system-on-chip that debuted late last year. It comes with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, with expandable storage up to 1TB also an option. You’ll find Android 12 out of the box here with MIUI 13 skinned over it.

In the camera department, the Redmi Note 12 5G packs a main 48MP camera alongside an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro sensor. There’s also a 13MP front camera upfront for all your selfie needs. Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. You’ll also find a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster and support for 5G, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 5.

Redmi Note 12

Lastly, we have the runt of the litter here with the Redmi Note 12. It shares the same 6.67-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display as the Redmi Note 12 5G, which can also push out a 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 1200nits and a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 over it for scratch resistance.

Under the hood, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 system-on-chip, meaning it lacks 5G connectivity (hence the name). This gets mated to up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, up to 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage and expandable storage of up to 1TB is also an option here. You get Android 13 out of the box here curiously, with a skin of MIUI 14 over it.

On the back you’ll find a triple rear camera setup with a main 50MP camera alongside an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro sensor. There’s a 2MP selfie camera up front too. The Redmi Note 12 has a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging, a 3.5mm audio jack, an IR blaster, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and support for WiFi 5, NFC and Bluetooth 5.2.

Details on local availability and pricing are to follow, but in Europe the Redmi Note 12 5G starts at EUR299 (~RM1,427.57) while the Redmi Note 12 4G starts at EUR199 (~RM950.12).
