So far, the attention in the folding phone space has largely been focused on larger devices, but more and more people are getting clued in to the importance of the smaller flip phones. After all, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip models outsells the Z Fold more than two to one, and we’re starting to see competition from the likes of Oppo with the Find N2 Flip—the only variant in the Find N2 series to be sold outside China.
Now, the progenitor of the form factor, the reborn Motorola Razr, is getting a third generation—and it looks like it will have the biggest cover screen of all its competitors. Renders that surfaced on Evan Blass’s Twitter (@evleaks) show an edge-to-edge display that even envelops the dual cameras and the flash, almost certainly dwarfing the Find N2 Flip’s already sizeable 3.2-inch vertical display.
This larger display should give users a much better view of their notifications and other functions, but it’s hard to get a good read on the interface given that the initial renders look pretty rough. What you can expect is a far larger “viewfinder”, although it won’t be oriented the same way as the cameras.
There aren’t any spec released just yet, but given that the 2022 version received a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip—the same as the Z Flip 4—you can expect the new Razr to be powered by the new 8 Gen 2.
