Back in August last year, U Mobile announced a revamp of their postpaid plans with the new ‘unbeatable’ U Postpaid lineup, offering plans starting from RM38 a month that offer up to 1,000GB of data a month. Incidentally, despite offering up to a full terabyte of mobile data for users in their new postpaid lineup, it still came with a 5GB hotspot quota, with hotspot boosters required if you exceeded it. However, the orange telco has now announced that it’s unlocking hotspot for all of its U Postpaid plans.
That means that from now onwards, whenever a U Postpaid subscriber uses hotspot, they will be using their main data quota rather than a separate hotspot data quota. For example, if you’re using U Postpaid 68 with 100GB of data a month, you can use up to 100GB of 5G hotspot a month rather than just 5GB. Similarly, for U Postpaid 98 users, you can use your mobile data to hotspot your other devices, with up to 1000GB of 5G data to use a month. This was one criticism we had with the U Postpaid plans when they first launched it last year; U Mobile had originally introduced this 5GB hotspot quota quietly on their old Postpaid 38 plan. However, with this change, U Mobile now offers the most hotspot 5G data among the telcos.
According to U Mobile, this new ‘Ultra Hotspot 5G’ feature will be made immediately available for new U Mobile subscribers as well as current U Mobile users who upgrade to these 5G postpaid plans. Existing U Postpaid customers meanwhile can expect to get these 5G upgrades very soon. Crucially, U Mobile adds that while the Ultra Hotspot 5G plan is a limited time promotion, once you unlock the hotspot feature you will be able to benefit from it permanently.
While the star of the show might be the U Postpaid 98 plan with its massive 1,000GB data quota, U Mobile hasn’t forgotten about its more entry-level plans either. The telco is also doubling the monthly quota for its U Postpaid 38 plan from its original 30GB to 60GB of up to 5G data a month. This change will also be a permanent upgrade for U Postpaid 38 users on top of the unlocked hotspot feature.
As a quick refresher, U Mobile’s Unbeatable plans feature three offerings, starting with U Postpaid 38 that costs RM38 a month and now offers 60GB of 4G/5G data a month and unlimited calls across all three plans. U Postpaid 68 meanwhile costs RM68 a month and offers 100GB of data a month, while U Postpaid 98 has 1,000GB of data a month. The latter two plans also come with free 15GB of global roaming data which can be used in 63 countries worldwide. It also lets you answer voice calls when within those 63 countries for free.
