Steam had 10 million Steam users playing video games on the platform—all at the same time on 7 January. The platform has officially reached that huge milestone for the first time.
According to Steamdb.info, the 10 million concurrent in-game players weren’t even just logged on and browsing the platform. They were actually in-game. The same graph showed that 32 million online users were logged in at the same time, on 7 Janaury, 2.30pm UTC (10.30pm Malaysia time).
Steam reportedly began keeping track of in-game concurrent users in 2017. Previously, one of the platform’s sudden user spike was 8.1 million concurrent players on 30 March 2020—during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As for what games were most popular during the recent spike, the most played game was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which reliably has about a million players logged in at peak times each day. Other games include Dota 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Apex Legends.
Previously, Steam also released its own “Spotify Wrapped” but for its gaming platform. It tells you how long you’ve spent gaming all year, along with other game-related data.
