If there’s one thing CES puts front and centre above all else, it’s display technologies, and this year Samsung is bringing its A-game. The company has revealed two new ultra-wide gaming monitors, one of which is a world first—the new Odyssey Neo G9 is essentially two 4K displays stuck together, creating the “world’s first dual UHD gaming monitor.” It’s also showing its flagship OLED gaming display, the Odyssey OLED G9.
Let’s start with the new Odyssey Neo G9, which boasts a 57-inch 32:9 quantum mini LED panel with a 7,680×2,160 resolution, dwarfing the outgoing 49-inch model. Like its predecessor, it has a 1000R curvature and a 240Hz refresh rate, and it also carries the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification.
To support the increased resolution, the new Neo G9 is the first to incorporate the DisplayPort 2.1 standard, which not only doubles the transfer rate of the old DisplayPort 1.4 but also adds lossless Display Stream Compression (DSC).
Samsung has also introduced the Odyssey OLED G9, sitting above the OLED G8, its first OLED gaming monitor. Similar to the G8, it has a less curved 1800R display, but it’s much larger at 49 inches across; it also has a wider 32:9 aspect ratio, resulting in “dual QHD” resolution (5,120×1,440 pixels). The refresh rate has also been bumped up to 240Hz—matching the rest of the G9 line—while the refresh rate remains a scant 0.1ms.
Aside from that, the OLED G9 comes with Samsung’s Smart Hub, allowing you to watch Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video when not gaming. It also includes the Gaming Hub that provides access to game streaming services like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now. No pricing details for either monitor have been announced just yet.
