Oppo has revealed its second-generation foldable, the Find N2, during its Inno Day event this year. The original Find N appeared to be a genuinely viable alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, but one that you could only find in China. This new model carries some significant enhancements that should make it an even better device; unfortunately, it looks like it’ll remain a forbidden fruit.
The Find N2 retains its predecessor’s 7.1-inch AMOLED inner display, with a 1792×1920 pixel (370ppi) resolution and an 8.4:9 aspect ratio. It is quite a bit brighter, however, with a peak brightness of 1,550 nits, while the new LTPO 2 technology allows the adaptive 120Hz refresh rate to drop down to 1Hz. An anti-reflective film covering has also been added, while the triple-layer carbon fibre support plate underneath is five times stronger than a regular steel plate.
Thanks to the almost square aspect ratio, the device continues to be much shorter than the Z Fold 4 when folded, yet wider—meaning that it’s not only more pocketable but also easier to type on. The outer display is slightly larger this year, measuring 5.54 inches across with a resolution of 2120×1080 pixels (429ppi). It too has a 120Hz refresh rate—up from 60Hz last year—while peak brightness has jumped to 1,350 nits.
The company has also made a number of refinements to the design. Last year’s Flexion Hinge folded the screen in a wider teardrop shape, which not only let the Find N close flat (no “thigh gap” here), but it also created a crease that was already less noticeable than on its rivals. Oppo has since managed to shrink the assembly and make the said crease 67% narrower, rendering it “almost invisible” from most angles.
The changes don’t stop there—thanks to more precise components, the Find N2 can stay open at any angle between 45 and 145 degrees. The use of carbon fibre and high-strength steel in its construction also makes the device 42g lighter than before, weighing in at 233g for the vegan leather version (237g with a glass back). It’s also 1.3mm thinner than before at 7.1mm unfolded.
At the back of the phone sits a positively massive bump, housing a triple-camera setup that bears Hasselblad branding for the first time. The 50MP main camera features a 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX890 sensor, optical image stabilisation and an 1/1.8 aperture, while the 48MP ultra wide uses a 1/2-inch Sony IMX581 sensor and an f/2.2 lens.
There’s also a 32MP telephoto shooter with a 1/2.74-inch Sony IMX709 sensor and an f/2 aperture. As for the two selfie cameras on the outer and inner screens, they are 32MP units with an f/2.4 aperture. The device not only incorporates Hasselblad’s colour science but also a Pro Mode and an XPan mode, the latter giving photos an extreme wide crop to mimic the namesake film camera.
Like many of Oppo’s newest smartphones, the Find N2 features Oppo’s MariSilicon X imaging neural processing unit (NPU), enabling 4K Ultra HDR and Ultra Night video recording (at up to 60fps) with AI-driven noise reduction. The revised Flexion Hinge also enables multi-angle FlexForm Capture, letting users shoot photos and videos from a variety of screen angles, just like Samsung’s FlexCam capability.
Under the skin, the Find N2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip (not the new 8 Gen 2 as previously rumoured), with 12 or 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 or 512GB of UFS3.1 storage. The whole setup is juiced by a slightly larger 4,520mAh dual-cell battery, which can now support double the fast charging capability to 67W thanks to Oppo’s SuperVOOC technology—it takes 42 minutes to charge the battery. There’s no more wireless charging, however, unlike last year.
The Find N2 runs on Android 13, skinned with ColorOS 13 optimised for foldables. As before, users can quickly activate split-screen mode by swiping two fingers down the middle of the inner display. They can also take a screenshot of either app by swiping three fingers down the left or right side (swiping down the middle takes the entire screen).
The device’s inner display also supports a new Oppo Pen stylus, which comes with a 1.4mm tip and 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. Other features include 5G, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, NFC, a side fingerprint sensor and face unlocking.
In China, the Oppo Find N2 is available in either matte green or white or black vegan leather, priced at RMB7999 (about RM5,075) with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and RMB8,999 (about RM5,701) with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Unfortunately, company reps told us that, like the original Find N, there are still no plans for a global release.
