Over RM4.69 million in fines have been issued by MCMC in 2022 alone

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has revealed that in 2022, they’ve issued a total of 112 compounds and fines worth a total of RM4,696,000. These involved various offences under the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998, as well as subsidiary laws under the Act.

Specifically, 106 of these fines were issued towards MCMC license holders for a total of RM4,616,000, with a further six issued towards non-license holders for RM80,000. The former sees 53 compounds for offences under Communications and Multimedia (Numbering) Regulation 2016, which are failures to follow with numbering and electronic addressing regulations.

A further 27 compounds were issued for offences under the Communications and Multimedia (Universal Service Provision) Regulation 2002. The rest under the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998 itself, with 17 of them for failure to follow mandatory standards, five for failing to comply with licensing conditions, two for failing to comply with guidelines on registration of end users of public and prepaid cellular services, and two more for offering services with a license.

As for the six fines issued to non-license holders, five of them were for offences under the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulation 2000 for using uncertified communication equipment, with one more under the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998 for causing damage to network facilities.
