This tiny 67W GaN charger doubles as a tiny old school Macintosh

If you’re in the market for a charger for your MacBook that has a bit more character flair, you might be interested in the Shargeek Retro 67. While it’s essentially just a 67W charger with three USB-C ports, it also features a pretty cool looking retro design in the form of an old school Macintosh machine, complete with a display to show you just how much power is being drawn from the wall socket.

This isn’t a totally new idea though. The accessory maker Shargeek had previously made headlines when it launched the Retro 35 earlier this year, a similar looking charger that also looked like the original Macintosh desktop, but was limited to just a single USB-C port outputting 35W of power. The Retro 67 takes this concept up a notch, as it is now able to output 67W of power meaning it can charge the likes of the MacBook Pro 13 and MacBook Pro 14, both of which need at least a 67W charger according to Apple.

Furthermore, by having three USB-C output ports this time, the Retro 67 is arguably a bit more versatile too, allowing you to charge multiple devices. For instance, with just one Retro 67, you’ll be able to juice up two M2 MacBook Air laptops using just this one charger, or fast charge just one of them. Alternatively, you can also hook up your MacBook Air to it while also powering up your iPhone and another accessory you may have lying around with a dead battery.

There are some minor drawbacks though, with the most obvious one being that the Retro 67 can only output a total of 67W shared between the three USB-C ports. This means that if you happen to have two M2 MacBook Airs connected to it along with an iPhone at the same time, each laptop will charge at its regular 30W speed while your iPhone will be drawing just regular charging speeds rather than its top 20W fast charging speeds. And while the display on the Retro 67 will look kinda cool as it displays how much power you’re using, it only shows the total power used rather than how much each device is drawing. It also won’t show any number if it’s plugged in but not connected to anything, instead switching to a digital rain theme instead.

Nevertheless, the Retro 67 looks like a pretty cool piece of kit that many Apple fans might want to own, especially those who are fans of the old Macintosh desktops. The Retro 67 is clearly a pretty popular idea already though, having reached 100% of its funding goal in just one hour after going live.
